Hall

Weeks

Fielder

Hardy

All Kids. All played, because Yost isn't a dipshi* like Dusty

Clark

Overbay

Lee

Jenkins

All Solid.

Their crappy players like Magruder aren't the first ones off the bench like Macias.

When someone gets hurt, they play youngsters.

Sheets

Davis

Capuano

Turnbow

Wise.

All Solid.

Ned Yost, not an idiot like Baker.

And they have more than HALF, yes more than HALF our payroll.

And they will finish ahead of us. I hate being a Cubs fan right now. Screw Dusty. Screw the organization.

I wish I was a Brewers fan. That's type of organization I would love to support.

(And no, just because my name is badger, doesn't mean I am a Brewer fan, I was raised in Chicago and went to UW)

Alas, I'm stuck being a lifelong Cubs fan. :(

The Brewers will be this year's Indians next year.

Most likely. They're on the cusp of breaking out.

If not next year, then definately the year after.

They just need a healthy Ben Sheets and they need to invest in the equivalent of a Kevin Millwood type starter.

Yep. They've got young upside on offense and a decent bullpen. All they need is a veteran leader in the rotation and they'll be ready to compete next year.

Attanasio has said that he will spend more next season but has been a little vague about just how much more. Hopefully he means above and beyond the increases that are already built into existing contracts.

I like the top four in the rotation (Sheets, Davis, Capuano, Ohka if he returns) but they need to fill in that fifth spot.. Helling has looked very good this month, so maybe he would be a possibility, but I'm hoping they move Overbay for a pitcher. They've also made noises about letting rookie LHP Dana Eveland have a shot at the rotation next season. The bullpen also needs shoring up. Matt Wise hasn't been able to stay healthy for an entire season and some of the young kids have been very shaky. I suspect someone like Millwood would be too rich for their preference, they will probably try to find another scrap heap guy like Helling. Santos can't return.

Things are unsettled at 3B but it looks like Bill Hall may be good enough to play there if they don't add anyone in the offseason. I'd like to see Cirillo back on the bench. Magruder will likely be gone, replaced by either Corey Hart or Nelson Cruz. I wouldn't mind seeing them trade Jenkins this winter... great second half but his recent performance doesn't justify the money he's getting ($8M) and he is about due for a major injury.

Great strides made this season, Hardy looks like he's figured out what to do at the plate. Weeks has shown good patience, hopefully his month-long slump is related to his thumb injury. Fielder has looked great in limited time but we'll see what happens when he plays every day. His pattern has been to start slowly at each new level and then come on strong in the second half.

After last year's second half collapse, I had doubts about Yost's motivational abilities, which is really all he has (as a game manager I think he makes some terrible decisions) but they managed to avoid that this season and made a pretty nice rally from their low point in June.

How about a Millwood-like starter like....Millwood?

If I were the Brewers, I'd actually hold off on Fielder til about mid-season. Now that Hardy has started to hit, they are a dangerous team. 1 more innings eater, that can get them a sub 4 ERA and they'll be very competitive. I'd really try to push Carlos Lee on someone who values those RBIs, and put Hart out there. I'd also look into getting Overbay some reps in LF.

Isn't the new owernship in Milwaukee saying they'll spend more money than the Selig clan did? They should move Lyle Overbay for pitching this offseason and open up a spot for Prince Fielder.

The Mets are interested in a firstbaseman with some pop...a Benson for Overbay trade improves both teams.

Overbay will probably be gone. And the thing is they still have some good hitting and pitching talent still left in the minors.

The Brewers actually seem to be able to develop thier minor league talent. They'll have a very good young team for a LONG time.

And winning puts butts in seats. Brewer fans WILL come out to see a winner.

i like the idea of moving lee to get hart in the lineup, the kid is very good...got to see him play here in nashville quite a bit.

Combining two thoughts here. Brewers need another starter to go with Sheets, Davis, Capuano. They may shop Overbay with Fielder being ready. Mike Maddux is their pitching coach. Maddux plus cash for Overbay? Makes it real easy to explore a trade of Lee, or you can just move one to LF(both are excellent 1B, although imo Lee's better suited for the OF). you open up a hole in the rotation, but replacing Maddux's production isn't really that difficult. Anyone think Milwaukee would go for a deal like this or something similar?

I think the Brewers are going to take the Cards place as the leaders in the Central in 07....maybe 06 if they have a good off season.

Well, it def won't be the Cubs that's for sure.

And Doug Melvin the best GM nobody talks about. If Tom Hicks hadn't been an idiot and fired him in Texas the Brewers would still be the Brewers.

That is very true. He built the core of the first playoff teams in Texas before Hicks became impatient and fired him.

As I said before, word I've been hearing is Overbay is gone to the highest bidder. I think he'll go at the winter meetings. Fielder is ready, and they really don't have any other place to put him. If he's a Brewer come opening day I'll be very surprised.

I don't know if the Brewers would go for Maddux. We'd have to eat most of that salary in order for them to consider it.

And even throwing salary out the window.... do you think Maddux is worth Overbay straight up?

The Selig-driven Brewers pushed fans away from 1993-2004 by cutting payroll, jetising players, and embarrassing the strong fanbase by allowing such crap to take the field every summer.

Mark Attanasio really has his stuff together. He's a smart business man that will let Melvin take care of all baseball operations. This is a VERY very young team. The possibilities are endless with Weeks, Hardy, Fielder, Hart, Cruz etc... the scary thing is that the Brewers still have one of the best farm systems in baseball. Pitching is on it's way up, and even if it stalls, they have the mass of talent to make trades and raise salary for it.

As a lifelong Brewer fan who has never been on board to see a winning season (I started watching in '95) , I've never been this excited. The city and state is buzzing about this team. We've always had a strong fanbase... it bothers me that some think that we're fair weather fans. We're not... but there's only so much Selig you can take, you know?

There's one thing Mark A. has to do to make Miller Park a constant sellout in 2006. Bring back the glove log. That logo IS Milwaukee baseball.

Have a good winter and we'll see you in spring Cubs fans, you better bring it.

I'd bet A LOT of money on the Brewers having a worse record next year than the Indians did this year.

But they'll probably have just as good of a chance of making the playoffs. :(

Well the Brewers that we know right now is a Selig team, the minor leagues is a Selig created system. Any if not all of the success the Brewers achieve in the next few years is going to be largely because of Bud Selig and what he did for the Brewers.

I cannot give Selig good grades because as a Commish and as a Wisconsin taxpayer I can't stand him. But as the owner of the Brewers he hasn't done a bad job. He hasn't done a great job but with the limitations that is the Brewers market he has done alright.

The Brewers even in the 90's could develop players their problem was that they could not afford them. The team was swimming in debt and I think no owner could have avoided that in the 90's with the exploding salaries. The only way he could have competed is if had a lot of his own money and he used it to finance a team. I cannot fault him for not doing that, its a poor business decision to do that.
