Been some chatter warranted or not that Larry Rothschild will be replaced this offseason who would you want as the Cubs pitching Coach.

I am big fan of Dave Stewart or Tom House.

My choices would be in this order:

Rick Peterson of the Mets (founder of the Oakland's big three of Mulder/Zito/Hudson.

Bud Black of the Angels.

Mike Maddux of the Brewers. (not b/c of his brother, but he is a damn fine pitching coach)

Tom House is an admitted steroid user, so I don't think he'll be welcome in the Cubs org.

I'm not knocking House, just saying that the people in charge are image conscious.

And none of those teams will give the Cubs permission to talk to any of them.

As somebody said, it's going to be Dick Pole. He's Dusty's boy.

Wasn't he Zimmer's pitching coach when the Cubs made the playoffs in '89?

I don't think this is true. Do you have a link?

I thought the story went that House meant greenies and not steroids. Additionally I'm not sure if he said he did it or it was just pitchers on his team.

You were right. He recanted his allegations that 6 or 7 pitchers on every team were doing steroids but not of his own use.

Pass on Dave Stewart please. He quit on the Brewers a few years back, couldn't handle the pressure... Ha, Milwaukee = Pressure, ah...I don't think so... wouldn't last past lunch if he was hired by the Cubs.

Tom House would be my top choice as well, many dollars req'd to sway him from his pitching clinics.

2nd choice would be Vern Ruhle, Cincy might go with someone other than Narron and then who knows if Cincy will let Ruhle go or keep him like the Cubs kept Rothschild despite going from Baylor to Kimm to Baker.

Of course, getting Ruhle would also help in getting Larry Dierker after next year once Dusty heads west. :)

I haven't really heard a lot about Rothschild being replaced. What are the chances this will really happen, and was this in an article I missed (or a thread) or is this just a wishful thinking thread; much like the threads discussing who should replace Dusty?

If Rothschild does go I would love to see them go after Mike Maddux.

Or Mazzone (which i know would not happen but... ) Didn't the Yankees try to get Mazzone this year, and he said he would go if the Braves would release him and in return the Braves extended his contract and gave him a raise?

Anyone who doesn't think Dick Pole won't just sit still a little closer to the rest of the team (ie, get promoted) is kidding themselves.
i unfortunately agree

Which is very scary.

Imagine how frightened Wood, Prior and Z are? With a Dusty-Approved pitching coach?

They'll probably ice their elbows all winter in anticipation of throwing 140 pitches in a ST start.

In recent days, Willie Randolph joined some of his coaches walking pregame laps around Citizens Bank Park, and only one member of the core group has not taken part: pitching coach Rick Peterson. Although Peterson's job seems secure, Randolph and GM Omar Minaya said the staff will be re-evaluated after the season, with possible changes.

Wood and Z working with bio-mechanics. I'll ponder that for awhile.
