I just got off work and missed the Iowa and OSU game. I know the scores, but how were the games? I doubt any rivaled ND's victory :D

Did Iowa losing Tate pretty much seal their fate, or were they already getting beat pretty bad at the time? Was OUS/Texas as good as the score made it look. Also USC/Georgia-was that a good one? Fill me in please.

I hate my job during FB season.

Losing Tate didn't help, but I'm not sure if it would have changed the outcome. We had 3 first half turnovers already when he went out, but were only trailing 9-0 midway through the 2nd. We came out flat/tight, and they came out ready to win their Super Bowl. Manson threw a big INT which was returned for a touchdown with only a few minutes left in the half. After that he didn't play all that badly and suffered through some very poor protection and a lot of drops. Basically the story of the game was our 5 turnovers. That's almost always impossible to overcome, but especially on the road against a team who always plays their best game of the year against us.

The OSU/Texas game was a very good one. OSU's defense (Hawk in particular) looked great. Young played a real solid game. They limited him on the ground after a big first drive, but he looked better with his arm than I expected. Ohio State's offense wasn't very impressive though.

I didn't see much of the Georgia game at all, but Arizona State/LSU was a very good game.

What's the word on Tate, btw?

Thanks. Its always better to hear from a fan who watched the game than just watching highlights. I caought the end of the LSU game. That was a great fourth quarter. Wish I could have watched the whole thing.

Got back from the Ball State-Bowling Green State game. BIG shock... Ball State lost 40-31. Which shocked all of us. I don't think I talked to anyone who expected us to score more than 14 points. We were even playing without about 38 of our players who were lost in the textbook scandle.

When I was down there BSU had the longest losing streak in the nation! That is one pathetic FB team. I do remember one game when the goal posts got tore down, but I can't remember for the life of me who they played (maybe Toledo). I know the posts ended up in the Duck Pond, and someone got hit by them and went into a coma, which lead to a lawsuit agains BSU. ANyway the point was BSU football sucks.

I just reread your post, they scored 31 points

Hawkeye:

I just read a Michigan board and they were discussing Ferentz coming to coach for UM. They want Carr gone after today. Any chance something like that would happen? I think I remember a post of yours earlier implying he would be in Iowa for a long time.

It's the same rumors that fly around whenever Notre Dame or some other big name program has a head coaching vacancy. People throw poop at the wall to see what sticks, much like how Paul Sullivan writes the majority of his Cubs articles. With Notre Dame in the offseason, it seemed like everyone from Jon Gruden to Barry Alvarez to Jeff Tedford was rumored for the job at one point.

I'm sure that if Luh-loyd Carr gets the axe, we'll be seeing those same rumors once again.

Once upon a time Ball State was actually a very good football program. My freshman year there (1978) they went undefeated in the MAC and 10-1 overall, losing only to Louisiana Tech (unfortunately the MAC didn't have a bowl tie-in back then). They've won the MAC a few times since then and been to a few bowl games. Those days are a distant memory now. Hopefully the stadium renovation will help restore the program to its former glory.

I know that. I was being sarcastic with that based on a previous post by hawk where he went into great length making it clear he would not leave Iowa. However I put this in the wrong thread on accident. Should have been in Wake up the Echos.

The stadium is supposed to be awesome. I remember when I was there a big deal was being made about the price of the lights. Alot of people thought it would be better spent elsewhere.

Just got back from the Mizzou-New Mexico game...

That may...may...may have been the worst defensive performance I have ever witnessed, by any team, at any level, ever.

Man, I was watching that game. I was thinking "When did you hire Greg Robinson as your defensive coordinator?"

Was the fumble that became a TD legit? I couldn't believe they didn't overturn that.

And that was a pathetic defensive performance. Smith was above average. He overthrew every ball of more than 10 yards, but had two ridiculous TD runs. I think on one of them he shook a lineman that had both arms around him. But since we couldn't stop a pass to #18, it was all for naught.

That sucks that we lost. It really pisses me off. But... we gotta put that one aside and focus on next week. Troy embarressed us - badly - last year, and now they're coming to MU. I see us beating the living crap out of them next week. Should be a great game to attend.

UCLA beat Rice 63-21. :) Drew Olson actually looked competent at QB and the Bruins gained 478 yards in just the first half.

plz take it easy on us next week

Poor Weis better win it all now this year or those crazy ND folks will be calling for his head in a year or so like Willingham

The alumni will never be completely happy. When I first got here, they said, "We want to be competitive." So we went 5-6 and lost 5 of those games by a total of 14 points.

So they came up to me and said, "No, you don't understand. We want you to win most of the games." So we went 8-4 after going to the Cotton Bowl.

So they came up to me and said, "No, you don't understand. We want you to win all of the games." So we went 12-0 and won the National Championship.

So then they came up to me and said, "No, you don't understand. We want you to win all of the games by a lot..."

When was the last time that Michigan, Ohio State, and Iowa were in a 3-way tie for dead last in the Big Ten?

Silly Notre Dame fans calling for the head of statistically one of the worst coaches in Notre Dame history. We have such high expectations!

What I don't get is why people say Ty was forced out. He forced himself out by losing. Any football program who has a coach that is not meeting their expectations should fire him. Why settle with mediocrity? Nebraska fired Solich after winning 9 games, and there wasn't near the outcry as when ND fired Ty, after having two straight seasons without winning more than 6 games. Ty was a terrible coach, which Washington is now learning.

However he has a real low handicap on the golf course.

I don't remember how many years but I heard yesterday that it has been a LONG time since they all lost on the same day. Is IU on top of the Big 10 right now, along with MSU?

Every other team is undefeated, although Purdue has only played one game.

I'm completely freaked out about Peterson, not confident about our young DL.

Definitely. It was a tough loss, but hopefully the defense is better than what they showed last night. The Big 12 North is still there for us to take.

One thing though...you don't realize how amazing Brad Smith is until you see him live and in person.
