More wisdom from BP...

"Now that the Cubs' chances for reaching the postseason have been fluctuating around one percent for the past three weeks, Dusty Baker has been finding at-bats for Matt Murton, who's hit .342/.424/.521 in 87 plate appearances. Other Cub left fielders have hit .249/.294/.386 on the year, but even allowing for some regression on Murton's part, it's clear Baker's failure to give him a shot earlier cost the team more than a few games in the standings. Not that his usage of Jose Macias, Neifi Perez, Corey Patterson, et al didn't already nail the coffin lid shut."

BP sure does love Dusty and the boytoys.

I wonder what it will be like at the Cubs Convention next year? If they didn't screen questions in the past, they may consider it this year.

While I don't doubt that Hendry will provide a vague, canned answer and Dusty will regail the room with stories of striped bass stealing his girlfriend away, it still wouldn't be a pleasant atmosphere if they were bombarded by tough questions from the crowd.

Exactly that is the strategy Hendry and Baker will use....scripted answers and stupid antidotes.

HA HA HA! The antitode to the blue kool aid they keep feeding us?

If you've ever read a Joe Morgan chat transcript from espn.com, that is pretty much how I expect the Q&A at the convention to go.

Ain't that the truth. Add to that Baker will have Darrin...what is he now 21?...... sitting on his lap.

Only if Darrin has bulked up and can push Neifi and Macias off to clear some space.

There's no WC happening this year. Move on to football. It's healthier.

Or hockey, the Blackhawks may actually be decent this season...

Pardon my ignorance, but hockey is what?

I knew I was reaching at bit...

"Pay Per View presents lap wrestling featuring Jose the Gremlin Macias....Neifi the Pez Perez and Darrin Drag me across home Baker."

The Black Hawks are that team that are always under the Red Wings in the standings....right?

May change a bit this season, Hawks went out and signed 9 FA, Nikolai Khabibulin, amongst them...

I think this fits in this thread, but did I hear that Santo is looking for the Cubs to go 16-3 to finish the season? That is blind loyalty that borders on stupidity.

That just sounds like Ronny being Ronny.

I think that what he said was that was what they would need to do to win the WC.

Good, because I don't even think Ron would think that is possible.

have we been mathmatically eliminated for the division?

I think so. St. Louis' magic number is two, and we're more than 2 behind the 2nd place team.

So the Cards will clinch in wrigley. Great.

Who cares. It could be Toronto for all I care. The Cubs were eliminated on Sunday, so that 'clinch' game does not mean squat to the Cubs. It's just another game.

I would not watch them celebrate though. No fun to watch another team do that....., ever.

How much are they really going to celebrate? I mean, they've basically had the division won for months. Are they really going to go nuts because they won the division by 20 games?

Isn't having them clinch on the road better than doing it at home? Ideally, I'd like them to back into the playoffs on the heels of a 24-0 sack-of-doorknobs whooping at the hands of the Cubs.

A dose of reality. After tonights loss, the Cubs must play .667 ball to finish the season with a record > .500!

losing any more games to the Cards this weekend would pretty much end any hopes of that happening :(

Then I hope the Cardinals sweep. This gutless team doesn't deserve to finish at or above .500.
