No trade for Walker, no trade for walker...

I agree. I don't know why so many people think he should be traded.

Neither do I, really. I think his defense is the big knock against him, but so what, he's got a little below average glove. You can't expect everyone to be on the level of Andruw Jones, Ozzie Smith, or Ryne Sandberg.

A little below average glove? His range is terrible.

I guess that's why we have numbers to measure them then. Walker's been slightly below average at 2B this year, a 97 rate(100 is average).

I can recall a few times when there were routine balls hit to him, he doesn't make the play and they call it a hit when it should be an error. And as I said before, bad range.

That is the problem with relying only on statistics. He is clearly not even an average defensive 2b and thats too bad, because he can hit.

Hopefully if he is not traded, we can end this whole discussion. it would be nice to see him back with the Cubs next year.

If you factor in what he brings to the plate, it more than cancells out any shortcomings defensively.

No it doesn't, at least not to me. I love Walker, but the man simply cannot field. But neither does Jeff Kent, and he is a questionable HOFer. I am of the school of thought that the team is only as strong as the "Up-the-middle" defense. And right now, the Cubs up the middle defense is PRETTY bad.

I love Walker's bat, and has always wanted him on the Cubs going back to his Rockies days, but the Cubs have got to get players who actually can field his position (not necessarily a GG caliber). If the Cubs decide to go with Cedeno at SS, then maybe Walker "shortcomings" at 2B can be overlook, but if the Cubs go with Nomar, or Furcal, or any offensive minded SS, then the Cubs have to find a good glove 2B, who provides decent offensive #'s.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think Nomar (if healthy all year) and Walker up the middle and in the lineup would be just fine. Yes, I would like to improve his defense. I'd take a player with a good bat and good D any day of the week over a player with a good bat and average to below average D. However, if I am choosing between a player with a below average bat and good D, and a player with a good bat and below average D, I'll take player #2 any day.

Why would he go to the White Sox? They already have a 2B? Yes Walker's defense is a liability. That's the entire reason the Red Sox let him go after the 2003 season.

He was bad that year, an 85 rate. Since coming to the Cubs he's posted 94 and 97 rates, and 98, 97, 95 in the 3 years prior to his stint in Boston. Looks like an aberration to me.

well, what you can 'recall a few times' certainly is more reliable than statistics. i'm with you...walker sucks.

MEMO TO JIM HENDRY: PLEASE DEMAND A KING'S RANSOM IN RETURN. IF THIS IS THE FINAL PIECE THAT BRINGS A WORLD SERIES TO THE SOX, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SOX FANS WILL DO TO US. THEY WILL MAKE SURE TO RIDE THE TROPHY DOWN WRIGLEYVILLE. PLEASE DEMAND McCARTHY AND IGOOCHI IN RETURN.

12 minutes... tickticktick.

I doubt Walker goes. I'm sure Hendry is asking for alot. It's probably best he stats, especially considering there are zero 2b options this year.
