The ball deflected off of Lee's glove/arm and hop-dribbled to short right. By the time Walker got there to pick it up and throw it, the second runner was on his way home and beat Walker's throw.

There was absolutely no reason to leave Mark Prior in the game after the two runs scored.

 

While I don't want to sound like a pitch count nazi, it will be meaningless games like this you'll be able to point to when Prior blows out his elbow next year. And of course, as usual, Dusty finally takes him out one batter too late.

Prior never should have come out for the 7th. Wood should have pitched this inning and then Dusty could have figured out ways to screw up the 8th and 9th innings.

I could care less about why the cubs are going to lose this game, or about Prior going to second instead of first. With his history of elbow trouble there is no reason at all he should have been left in a meaningless game to throw 131 pitches. Dusty should be fired on the spot.

I don't think any other manager in the world could have not made the playoffs last year with the team we had. I think many "challeneged" individuals could have decided to try someone other than Hawkins at closer and that alone probably gets you in. :roll: Real Cubs fans deserve better than what the organization gives us every year.
