Thankfully he'll miss St. Louis, who would probably drill him for 7 runs too. His next turn is Houston. They're not a good hitting club overall, but it's at Minute Maid. Hill's confidence has to be hovering around zero right now. Is it wise to send him down to Iowa or to get him some work in the pen, and start either Mitre or Rusch?? We still have Mitre right? :)

Send him down. I guess it isnt a good idea to promote someone who is having his first taste of professional success all the way from A to the majors in 3 months, huh.

i wouldn't be too upset if they sent him down. but at this point, you might as well see if he has what it takes to compete for a spot in the rotation next year. sending him down to insert rusch into the rotation is pretty pointless.

What's up w/ the sarcasm?? Is there a rule about being skeptical of Cub prospects?? Good players from the Cubs system tend to be few and far between.

you're right. that kind of stuff is totally unnecessary.

You're right though. I did sell his first 2 starts short. That plate of crow must not be going down well.

Hes pratically too old to be called a prospect. Hes 25. His fastball aint going to improve much as he gets older.

If they were facing San Fran, I'd like to see Hill get another start so he could try to get on his feet. However, it's @ Houston. Yes the Cubs are pretty much done, but it's a big series anyway, and it's the leadoff game of the series. Also, Hill might be trying to break a 12 game losing streak.

That was in response to your initial snide remark. I was raising a legit point.

Well, at this point, I agree. If we were still in the thick of it, the decision on what to do with Hill/5th starter is a little more crucial than it is now.

Send down Richy and bring up Bobby. Clearly, its Brownlie time!

:loco:

get ready...you will be hearing it if brownlie comes up and doesn't throw four straight shut outs. hope you can 'take it'!

Maybe just a slight exaggeration. I really dont think the Hill hating has been that bad. I mean, its not like Hill is just losing. Hes getting bombshelled, obliterated, destroyed, massacred, and what not.

Oh, I can take it. I've lugged his banner this far and warded off the haters for two seasons. I'd be happy to continue my awkward support at the ML level.

Maybe for the rest of the season he could be tried as a LOOGY. It seems like he doesn't have the fastball to go with the big curve to face hitters a 2nd and 3rd time in a game. Use him and Ohman as the LOOGIES and put Rusch back in the rotation.

I wouldnt be surprised if Brownlie came up and pitched very well, shall I say "buehrle-like". but then again, the cubs would act snake-bitten and trade him off at season's end to someone like Kansas City for McDougle only to watch Sisco and Brownlie pitche KC to champanship after championship.....

ok. I'm bitter.

things worked out great for rusch tonight, didn't they?

i wasn't going to give you crap about your pining for glendon over hill until i come to the game thread and see you're still ragging on hill....long after rusch has been rocked and removed.

did you see hill's line tonight, by the way?

Touche. :D

Hopefully Hill can get on his feet against minor leaguers. He wasn't ready for prime time. I'm one to give Baker and Hendry the benefit of the doubt from time to time. Perhaps they know what they doing every once in a while???

Gotta love the incessant negativity and lack of objectivity. Baker has sukked, but I'm not going to pound him for every single move he makes. Contrary to popular belief, he may know a thing or too. However, the game has become too scientific for him.

Take this for what it's worth, but here's what Baker had to say about the Rusch performance:

“Glendon wasn’t really as sharp as we would have hoped he would be,” said Cubs manager Dusty Baker. “He hung a breaking ball to Burke, and he hit it out. At first, they were just blooping them all over, they really were, and finding every hole.”

In contrast, here are comments made by Dusty following Hill's last start:

"We have to address it," Baker said. "I don't think I've ever seen six hits and eight runs like that."
