Depression

Acceptance

Most of the NSBB is in the Anger Phase. I am personally getting over the depression and accepting the fate of the 2005 Cubs.

I'm looking for Wood to have surgery ASAP. Play Murton and C. Pat the rest of the season. Give D. Lee a couple of days off and start Walker at first.

The Tribune Tower overloards need to cut bait now. It's not even funny any more.

past acceptance it IS funny, but it's also still depressing...

the ending for this season stops at acceptance, but it's already depressing for next year...

Yeah, just wait until you are actively rooting for the Cubs to lose, it's a weird, theraputic feeling.

i'm not rooting for losses, im rooting for horrific/interesting losses

i have the distinct feeling that at least a couple of these cardinal games will be played close in order to increase the pain

once you get to acceptance it's actually REALLY funny

It is funny in a pathetic way. I feel like I'm rooting for the cops in the Blues Brothers and they keep smashing their cars into one another and all over the city.

I do feel bad for Hill and all the younger people on the team.

I was thinking the same thing only the was thinking the Cubs will sweep the Cards and then go on another losing streak. To little to late.

I don't believe in doing anything half-assed. If you're going to be good, be damn good, but if you're going to bad, be spectacularly bad; the bad that's the Titanic, Hindenburg, Bon Jovi, Jimmy Carter Presidency kind of bad.

I expect nothing less than the Cubs getting swept in humiliating fashion by the Cards. Maybe the sight of Cardinal fans waving brooms in Wrigley Sunday will be enough for Hendry to realize it's time to cut bait with Baker.

It's to the point of acceptance with anger mixed in. This team likes to make average or below average pitchers look like cy young winners. I don't want to say this, I won't be surprised if the Cardinals come in and sweep the Cubs into 5th place.

I'm getting to acceptance, slowly. I'm in depression at the moment. Having said that, as I walked into the cinema tonight at 1-1, I said to my friend, oooh, we'll be down 5-1 by the time the film starts. Yes, there was a queue, but I was still right.

Scott, if anyone is still in the denial stage, it has got to be you. That isn't meant in a bad way at all. The thing is, I couldn't even force myself to type half of the stuff you do in maintaining your "spirited" defense of this team's chances at coming out of their funk. You were in there until the end today in the game thread, despite people like me telling you that you were crazy. (Exaggeration, but you get my point.)

I have also very much been enjoying listening to the WGN post-game show and the talk show afterward. they've just been making fun of the Cubs non-stop.

I can see why you might say that but if you have ever witnessed first hand a good team going down the drain like this years Cubs seem to be then you just accept it and see what the kids do like Cory Pat. and Murton and Hill at the Major League level. I just want the team to show a little pride now and the boo bird fans to go away.

It's not denial at all. I was angry for some time about it and the wife had to tell me to just let it go. It isn't going to happen this year. Be glad you know it now. Most fans of other teams will die a horrible death because their team is still close unlike the Cubs.

But if you read my posts they are more positive because the Anger part of the threads just get boring after awhile.

I was thinking of the NSBB typical quotes that personify the list.

Denial:

"The Cubs still can make a run if they win all there remaining games they might have a chance."

Anger:

"Dusty stinks, Neifi Stinks, the pen, our batting, Cory Patterson all are terrible and should be booed!!!!"

Bargaining:

"If they fire Dusty, and Hendry now the Cubs just might pull this season out of the fire."

Depression:

"Oh did the Cubs lose, I mean play today? Oh well"

Acceptance:

"The 2005 Cubs team just didn't have what it takes to play playoff baseball with the injuries, bad basic baseball execution and bad back office and on-field management decisions the team could not remain consistent for any prolong period of time. What do we need to do for 2006?"

How's that?

I'VE BEEN DOING THIS LATELY.

F-IT. FIRE THE WHOLE DAMN THING UP.

I bet you guys built block house as a kid and then knocked them all down.

I bet you scratch bug bites until they bleed. (Minnasota)

Basking in the depression of a season gone terribly down the black hole...with no appearent bottom.

I call for the Cubs to sweep the Cards and keep turning the knife in our side personnelly. He He

I believe you forgot the step after Acceptance which is Apathy.

For the fans or Players? As a fan I would run out a dropped third strike, but that might just be me.

For the players. Alas for us fans we are bound to stick to this team no matter how much posturing we do about switching allegiances. Once a Cubs fan, forever a Cubs fan.

With all the losing I'm actually in my normal comfort zone as a Cubs fan as and as that reality is.
