Lee's at-bat killed us. In all of our losses, all you have to do is look at the 3-6 hitters to see why we don't score runs.

I wonder if his shoulder is right. But, then again, his strike zone is entirely different right now than when he was locked in. Remembering how he stopped hitting late last year, could his early (though extended) surge brought on an earlier season downfall?

His strike zone may have changed because he is compensating for the injury. And he is surely pressing. I'd like to see him get a couple days off and see what he looks like afterwards.

I believe everyone should be accountable for this mess. And it's ridiculous for Lee in one breath to say they have to win games while he can't see he's hurting the offense if he is indeed hurt. I'm beginning to think that's not the case since he said something prior to the All-Star break and sat. Why wouldn't he sit now? Also, I know we have our favorites on here, but it's not like Lee is a career .340 hitter. Maybe, like Perez, he's just getting back to his normal stats.

Except that his career stats aren't as bad as he has been playing. And he, like Aramis, are probaly playing though injury because the team thinks they are still in it and know if they are going to get offense, it will probably be from those two. Straits were not as dire before the ASG.

No his stats aren't as bad as he's been playing, but that's why they're averages. If he finishes along his career lines, because of his torrid start, he'd have to put up bad numbers. If he is hurt, his eyes are hurt, too, because he's swinging at crap pitches he wasn't swinging at earlier this year nor last year.

Cubs lead!!! Cubs lead!!! Too bad, we're not in the fifth or I'd call for rain.

IMO when you're hurt or tired you start to do things you wouldn't normally do. The Cubs have all these lefties so why can't one give Lee a rest?

JONMDAVIS: I went to high school with one of the guys in your sig.

I'm guessing you're from Chicago, so McGarigle?

Nice stroke by Lawton.

Yep, Tim is a year or two younger than me though. Really nice guy, and one hell of a football player.

Well, in a few recent AB's he has been noticeably wincing. He just looks totally different at the plate than he has all year. I expected him to come down, but there is more going on there, I'm sure of it.

What are the odds that Burnitz is moved in a waiver deal before August 31st?

Why would any real playoff contender want Burnitz? Most of us didn't want him last spring.

Bunt hit for Patterson. Now Henry "Hank" Blanco up. I like Blanco.

left handed power bat off the bench...Boston, White Sox, St Louis and Houston all could use him....i'm not saying we'd get anything useful for him, but clearing the spot in RF would be worth the trade...

I just don't see the same value in him as you do. St. Louis basically restricts itself to only one home run or nothing type of hitter on their team per year. They have that in Reggie Sanders, but he's DL'ed. I think the Red Sox and White Sox don't need a lefty power hitter off the bench, and Houston wouldn't pay him the nearly $600,000 he's owed for the rest of the year. Burnitz just isn't that good to me.

Gosh, I hate this team so much. They are going to win today and give me some hope that we can actually do something. they they will probably a couple in a row and get back within two or three and then Die again and make me sad.

The nation's top returning tackler. Has a great work ethic, too.

Come on, Mark.

I agree. Burnitz has been available at the deadline a couple years, now. Except for Hendry, I haven't heard word one about any interest teams have in him. Has he had success as a PH bat off the bench? I don't know. Regardless, if where there is smoke there is fire, where there is no smoke, I dare say there is no fire.

PLZ REDS GET SOME RUNZ

(so Baker gets the hook)

Are you kidding us? Let me guess, you'd trade a playoff appearance for a losing season just so Baker will get canned, right? Brilliant strategy.

Yeah, there was a tight group of guys on that high school team that busted their @$$es to get where they are today. Hard work breeds hard work.

It worked, he's at Northwestern, and Santucci is starting at Notre Dame now.

Boston could really use him. They were looking for a RF even before

Trot went down. I gotta believe they would rather have burnitz than jose

I think at this point he's proven that he isn't kidding. He's lost it.

They went to some trouble to bring back Gabe Kapler. I don't think they would prefer Burnitz over Kapler at all.

I'm one that let's no one off the hook. Why can't Lee say, "I'm not helping this team right now due to my injury, therefore I'm sitting a couple of days." I get tired of reading how guys simply say stuff like, "We need to play better" or "We need to start hitting", but then hurt the team.

Okay, Lee doubles. Now let's get some more runs!

I dont know what the chances are, but I personally believe that Hendry may be fighting for his job as well, so for him to go young and just give up may not send the best message to ownership. Again, I may be wrong, but just my $.02.

Slim to none, RIGHT now. Hendry has legitmately put the Cubs back on the map from the day he started, thus he gets a little leway. BUT....if Baker is let go in the off-season.....the Heat on Hendry will begin.
