The quote was: "brain-dead Caribbean hitters hacking at slop nightly." and about Alou, "You have a manager in Felipe (Alou) whose mind has turned to Cream of Wheat."

I don't really understand the need to throw Caribbean in there, but it's not like the guy said all Caribbean people were brain-dead. He said the hitters on there team, that happen to be Caribbean are brain-dead and keep swinging at crap. I'm sure he could have worded it differently and still got his point accross, but in my view he wasn't trying to throw racial slurs about and put down a whole region of people.

While, I understand the whole Cream of Wheat label thing.........I don't think the guy meant it that way. Again, better wording was probably in order there.

I'm sorry, but that's a pair of blatantly racist statements. Are the Giants' American hitters not brain-dead?

I didn't say it was right. I don't agree w/ what the guy said.

If he had said........brain-dead overpaid ball players swinging at slop all night......................he would of been okay. I didn't understand him to be saying all Caribbean's were stupid, or brain-dead. Or that they were stupid because they were Caribbean. It was just bad, bad wording.

On the Cream of Wheat thing. I think it's made worse by the previous statement.

I don't know the S.F. radio guy..........I just didn't get the sense that he was attacking racially. That wasn't the intention.

But he's right to apologize for it.

Uh, he specifically singled out Caribbean players. I don't see how that can't be seen as racism.

And where is Scoop Jackson on this one?

Agreed.

Cream of Wheat is mush. Felipe Alou's brain is like mush. It's people looking for something racist by saying that statement is racist.

I'd venture to guess the Caribbean line was referring specifically to Feliz and Cruz who are both brain-dead hitters and swing at slop.

The overreaction to this is ridiculous.

My guess is that the Cream of Wheat statement was a coincidence (although I'd have to actually hear it), but the first statement was way out of line.

Maybe I'm naive, but I don't see how the Cream of Wheat comment can be taken racially, unless you just say "he said that because I'm black/hispanic/etc.".

They should fire the jerk, not just suspend him. It is out of control.

I'd venture to say that your guess is correct. All I'm saying is that he shouldn't have said Caribbean and made it "racial." These brain dead players like Feliz and Cruz that just go up there and swing at slop............

When you're talking about racially charged comments...............they have to be racially charged, meaning this guy has to literally hate for Caribbeans. I just don't think that's the case.

I don't agree w/ what he said, but I don't think he's a racist.

Cream of Wheat use to have an elderly African-American man who was serving Cream of Wheat to little white kids on the front cover.

Oh I completely agree with the Caribbean remark. It was unnecessary, especially with some other brain-dead players on the team.

I'll agree that the cream of wheat thing is probably nothing, although when coupled with the first line, I don't know how much benefit of the doubt we should allow this guy.

I just don't understand how the Cream of Wheat is seen as racist. The mere mention of the product Cream of Wheat concerning a black man must be racism?
I doubt it. He was talking about mush.

THE WORLD IS ENDING!

No really, the comment was stupid, but I think the host was trying to be descriptive, and he used a politically incorrect statement.

If you're with a group of buddies, you can say that, but when you're tailoring to thousands of listeners, then thats just bad judgement.

Bad statement. Sounds like he is just a frustrated fan who has a microphone that reaches tons of listeners.

Still though, gotta watch what you say a little bit when it's your profession and everything. There are plenty of other ways he could have stated his frustration with just as much edge, yet not offended anyone. The guy is a radio host, so alot of this is planned in advance. He should have planned it better.
