Cubs get Manny and Mueller for Aram, Cpat and others.

I don't like it, what do you think?

I think it's an excellent example of why Stone would never, ever get hired as a GM.

Honestly, he never really says anything that's not rhetorical or general unless it's a game situation. When they ask about player development, potential trades, or anything that requires critical thinking, Stone just repeats himself over, and over, and says just enough to make it appear he knows some insider info.

I loved him as a color guy, but as a radio expert/potential GM, I don't care for him, at all.

The Cubs have finally filled the 3B hole that opened when Santo left, now is not the time to open that up again. I would love to get Manny, but I'm not trading any of our real marguee guys, like A-Ram, Nomar, Lee, Prior, Wood, Z, Maddux, Burnitz, or Walker for him. Since I doubt the Red Sox would go for a stable of young prospects for one of the best RBI men in the game. It won't happen.

Our goal is to trade pitching surplus or guys like Patterson, Holly, Walker(?), etc...not giving up a cornerstone of our team.

There's no way that Jim moves A-Ram...he was in love with the guy when he got him from Pitt and Rammy's only secured his place with the past few seasons.

In my opinion, A-ram, D-Lee, Prior, and big Z are all un-moveable on this team. Those are the 4 guys that I see Hendry holding on to regardless of all possibilities. Probably Pie and mabye Hill as well from the minors system, but Im not as confident about those 2.

It was Mitre, Welly, CPatt, and Aramis for Manny and Bill Mueller. No, please.

Okay, Aramis and CPatt for Manny and Mueller straight up isn't fair; Let alone throwing in Mitre and Wellemeyer. Wow, I heard this analogy on the score: "It's basically like moving Aramis to left and Murton to third, and taking on 9 mil in salary and getting older." Which is 100% true. I generally like Steve Stone but wow...

I heard him on the score. His argument is that basically:

A) Aramis is a defensive liability at 3B, Meuller would fix that and provide adequate numbers at 3B

B) The Cubs would make their impact trade and get the only Ramirez that is potentially better then Aramis

C) It was confusing the way he described it, but basically he said the Cubs would be saving $75 million by making that trade. I'm not sure how he got that number though sorry.

It was never, nor will ever be proposed, its just Stone trying to make a logical trade to use on the radio to get people to call him. I'm against the trade obviously, but I guess there is a logical progression in his thought pattern. If we were to trade for Manny, chances are it would be in a multiple team trade with the third team being a seller that wouldn't mind taking on prospects and spare parts like Mitre/Welley/Corey/etc.

If Manny and Mueller were 3-4 years younger I would say go for it, but as much as I love Bill Mueller and the way he plays baseball, I just think his knees only have a certain amount of time left in them - and Manny has been on record saying he was going to retire from baseball when his contract is up (2-3 years?).

I try very hard not to overvalue "my" team's players - when you're a fan, you tend to think much more highly of your guys than is realistica.

That said, Aramis is only 27 and is just coming into his own - I don't think he's as much of a liability at 3B as Steve Stone seems to think and it's likely he will only get better with more practice. The only thing that scares me about him is that these hamstring and quad issues seem to surface and resurface a bit too often for me (maybe a great stretching program in the offseason?).

Cubs would never do it. Took us nearly 30 years to replace Santo at third. Outfielders are easier to find than third basemen.

i heard stone on p.t.i. friday or might have been thur.

anyway, he said by dumping aram salary and sosa's salary it would + mram paycheck. i dont see where he's coming from with this. we loose sosa's salary next season anyway. and as stated earlier, why move the 1st dependable cornerman since santo. i think we got as good as a corner infield as in baseball ( right up there w/ pujols/rolan). no need to mess that up for mram.

stone doesnt make a strong case for a future g.m. with this idea.

i might be too much of a fanboy, but i dont move aram.

unless its for arod and a WHOLE lot of cash.

and that just aint going to happen.

bump to remind people of how idiotic this trade idea is. It's galactically stupid.

You trade a 27 yr old entering his prime for a 33 year old at the end of it. All you are doing is shifting production from 3B to LF, since Mueller isn't any better than Murton/Hollandsworth are on average. Plus, you're taking on an insane amount of money. All this deal makes you is older, and it also makes you worse in the long run, since you have less financial flexibility.

Stupid trade. That's the kind of poor thinking that gets GM's fired. ARam basically is Manny right now, only cheaper and likely to continue to improve as he hits the peak ages of his career.

How the deal look if it's Manny, Youkilis and $10 mil. of cash??

It still looks stupid. All you do is shift your production from one place to another. Your offense isn't any beter than it was, and $10m only pays for this year of Manny's deal. What about the $20m he makes in 2006-7?
