And Floyd is under contract for next year, too, right? He'd be a decent option for the length of his contract, depending on what the Cubs gave up for him. He takes Burnitz' role next year, and we give Murton/Pie/Montanez (he's doing really well!) a shot.

I've been chatting on a Boston board some and seems they'd be happy w/ Soriano & Delucci for Manny. Sounds like they're sick of Manny and they'd improve their 2b ops by nearly 200 points. If the Cubs could get Manny, I'd be cool w/ sending almost any prospect not named Pie to Texas.

Yes of course they'd do it. They're saving a bunch of money, getting a major upgrade at 2B and getting a cheap LF who has been very productive this year and losing the distraction of Manny.

The problem is making it work for the Cubs and Rangers. How do you propose we land Soriano and Delluci?

Who's the best pitching prospect after Hill?? Guzman's hurt too often, so doubt he has much value. I'd send that prospect to Texas, along w/ Patterson and Rusch. Boston can send TX the great Bellhorn.

Brownlie, more than likely.

Make Boston take Remlinger to save some money. Perhaps get some money from Boston over the next 3 years. Oh and deal Wood, who will be $12 million of dead weight next year.

No way. Probably Pinto.

Still I don't see that working for Texas if you're asking them to give up Soriano AND Delluci. Bellhorn has been awful this year and lost his job in Boston.

thats why a 3 way deal with texas and boston seems probable if any deal were to happen since we dont have a need at 2B

Texas wants pitching, pitching and more pitching. Plus they want pitching. I don't think I'd be too worried about losing position players unless its done to clear a roster spot.

I don't think Brownlie is even in the Cubs top 10 anymore.

Can Wood be added as a PTBNL in a 3 way deal?? I've read you can't trade guys on the DL. Perhaps Kerry doesn't like the idear of returning as a reliever and will waive his no-trade clause. Hope so.

as soon as i heard this soriano rumor, i immediately thought of a three-way trade with boston. boston needs a second baseman, the cubs need a LF, texas needs pitching. everyone keeps saying that one of the most difficult things about trading ramirez is getting equal value for him. isn't soriano a start? he'd fit well in the boston lineup, which already has a ton of OBP. texas needs pitching, the cubs need a big bat in LF... make it happen, jim

I want no part of Manny... I "Really" don't like Soriano anywhere other than 2b. I guess both depends on who we give up. I'll wait and see.

i think acquiring soriano is much riskier than getting ramirez. soriano is terrible at 2B, which is where he wants to play, and supposedly isn't interested in playing OF. his road splits are all over the place, his steals are down, and his OBP is around .315. i'll take manny over soriano any day of the week.

I didn't read thru all 12 pages of this thread but supposedly the Rangers initially wanted Hill and Murton for Soriano. Don't know how accurate that is but that's what I heard.

I'd have to question that simply because the Rangers don't need a corner outfielder and it's not like they'd want to try to convert Murton to a first or third baseman.

They need a center fielder though.

I just don't get it when people say they "want no part of Manny". I understand having reservations based on his contract and reputation. I know he's not a great OFer and his hustle ain't exactly legendary. But please check the stats!

Let me help: http://www.baseballreference.com/r/ramirma02.shtml

Don't even bother with this year - the man's OBP has been greater than .400 seven times in the last ten seasons! (sometimes substantially greater). And he's still doing it! He's 32 and does not have a history of nagging injuries (unlike a certain flame-throwing Texan on our roster) and therefore is likely to keep it up for another 3-5 years.

Please Jimmy H! Make it happen!

EDIT: Please also note that he has a career OPS of over 1.000!!!!

According to Bruce Miles, the Cubs may be in the Soriano talks to get there hands on Floyd. I would love to see Floyd come to Chicago for the balance of '05. If they only give up Mitre and a lower level pitching prospect, I say go for it.

Getting a lefty LF makes lots of sense for the Cubs. Perhaps Murton goes to NY???

Take out Murton & add Holla with Mitre & Welly.

I'd be shocked if Holla has any value. As for Murton, can he play rf?? If not, Dusty will bury him this year and next.

I'm not sure id anyone has brought this up (didn't read back thru the thread too far), but MSNBC Sports has a story on about the Cubs in the lead for Soriano. They mention including Walker in a deal to Texas because the Rangers wanted him before he resigned with the Cubs. I believe they mentioned a three-way with the Mets as well.
