How old is Manny? Will the rest of his contract be during his peak years?

He turned thirty three in may.

Now I have to admit I'm a little worried about that. I am also worried that Hendry might have to sweeten the Manny pot with some cash since he can demand a trade if he is dealt in the middle of a multi year contract....yes or no?

I can't see an idiot organization like Tampa Bay helping facilitate a blockbuster deal. Never know though... LA being involved could throw a big wrench into things. They may have the pitchers that Texas likes. Apparently, Weaver's on the block, and I'm guessing that DePodesta loves Manny.

According to ESPN.com, the Red Sox, Mets and Devil Rays have decided on a soft deadline of noon Saturday to put the Manny Ramirez deal back together.

It's supposedly the Red Sox and Mets that need to work things out, as the Rays are happy with their haul (Lastings Milledge, Yusmeiro Petit, Anibal Sanchez and Kelly Shoppach). The Red Sox want more in return than Mike Cameron from the Mets and are still reportedly insisting that the Mets assume the entire $64 million Ramirez is owed. Jul. 29 - 11:29 pm et

That's quite a haul of prospects for Tampa.

I doubt that deal gets done. I don't see the Mets assuming Manny's contract, and I doubt the Red Sox are really going to trade Manny and only get Huff and a mediocre Mike Cameron in return.

I'd say our chances of getting Manny are low, but again, I could see this being a situation where the Sox-DRays-Mets deal falls apart and JH could step in at the last moment.

Sporting News Radio (don't know how reliable that is) reporting that the Rangers, Marlins, and Blue Jays have all contacted Boston about Manny as well.

Yeah, Ken Rosenthal's column on Yahoo! is saying the same thing. Surprised not to hear the Cubs mentioned.

Rosenthal is a hack. Even if he weren't wrong almost every time he reports something like this, it doesn't make any sense. How are the Blue Jays going to take on Manny's salary, and why would Boston trade in the division? Florida is worried about not being able to afford Burnett, and they're trying to dump Lowell, but they can take on a 20 million a year guy?

If we get manny I will scream like a schoolgirl.

:willynilly:

i'll be smiling from ear to ear for probably the whole week :D

And people here will still be saying the Cubs offense sucks.

You're right...but that just made me think of how sick this lineup would be...

Hairston, Walker, Lee, Ramirez, Ramirez, Burnitz, Nomar, Barrett

Wow

Oh, and take your pick with the ManRam and ARam 4/5... :)

Wow yeah. Manny's "bad defence" would not be a problem on the Chi Sox if he batted DH.

I'll bet that's where he turns up. Kenny Williams ain't nobody's fool. He sees World Series this year, and I'm guessing he'll go for it.

I highly, *HIGHLY* doubt that...

The White Sox won't pick up that salary...

Who knows, though. I could be wrong.

Did Reinsdorf recently sell the team?

You though Dubois's D was bad? Wait till you see Manny on a daily basis. Train wreck.

He does put out offensively, but the laziness and lack of basic defensive skills scare me.

man ram is not lazy. he has a rep of one of the ahrdest working players on the red sox. he works very hard on his defense, he just isn't very good. also keep in mind that his blunders seem to find there way on to espn every time so you see most of his mistakes.

he has one error in 2005.his career high is 7. i realize there are more ways to play bad defense besides plays that are classified as errors but i would certainly take a guy who hits over .300 has 35-45hrs and 130 rbi every year since 1995.

our guy sammy has 3 errors this year and had a career high of 10 in 2000...i think most cub fans could find a place in their heart for manny!

He is a below average LF and you're right about Sportcenter showing all his mistakes. Manny plays in their area and they love to show that kind of stuff.

Just to inform anyone they said on espnnews that because the deal is so complicated the red sox want to reach an agreement by 12 today(sat)

Since I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic, I'll get pretty excited for the Cubs if the Manny/Mets deal breaks down. But only because I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic :) .

Yeah, I'd say that's about right.

Seriously, while I'd love to have his bat, we just spent a whole offseason purging this team of guys with attitude problems far less than what Manny has.

none of them had a career OPS of 1.000+, though

Texas has Ian Kinsler to put at 2nd base if Soriano is dealt. I don't think they would want Walker if it meant getting less pitching in return.

Back to Manny, I never did catch what that thing was about last week when he went through the door in the wall at Fenway and almost didn't make it back in time for the next pitch. Can someone fill me in as to what that was all about? Thanks.

I'd be for a Soriano trade if we hang on to Walker. If we deal Walker, then no thanks.
Yar.

Walker can get on base, talk a walk, and not strike out as much. Soriano will drive you batty with K's. When Nomar comes back I'd rather have Walker at 2nd and Murton in left than Soriano in left and Neifi at 2nd because you know that's what'll happen.
