"It's tougher to hit a hanging fastball than it is to hit a hanging curveball." - Joe Morgan

He's right...

You miss with a FB, you're less likely to give up a line drive/HR than you would if you hung a breaking ball. A hanging curve/slider is the easiest pitch in baseball to drive.

A "hanging fastball", UK? When have you ever heard that said before? i know what he's trying to say too, but there's no such thing as a hanging fastball.

You leave a FB right down the middle with no movement, it's a hanging FB (no pitcher tries to throw a FB like that except 3-0 vs. a punching judy), it is a stupid term, but can be applied to that type of pitch.

I prefer "flat" or in scouting terms "straight" and for movement "none".

Agreed. A fastball with no movement or bad location, yes. A hanging fastball, no.

Anyway, back to the crappiness.

Hanging fastball = A fastball less than 75 mph, or a junior high fastball.

An Jon, "ballpark village" means they're copying off of Wrigleyville.

if so, hopefully they omit that annoying boystown thing.

I generally dont laugh at teams that are ahead of us by more than 10 games in the standings. Oh and they have had just as many injuries as us too.

The Cardinals may be ahead of us by more than 10 games in the standings, but it ain't because of fundementals.

Also, it's a bit disingenuous for the Cardinals to cry injury when it has only happened to them recently while the Cubs have been plagued for most of the season.

Not to be a troll but i dont think the cards have been crying.

I disagree, that's not what I read from the St Louis media. The article on Cardnials.com that setup this game had a headline bemoaning the team's injury plagued lineup. It was as if they had a built in excuse for a presummed loss to Prior. Outside of the media, some Cards fans are talking about how their minor league team almost beat us yesterday. To that I must remind them that there is nothing Triple A about Matt Morris' arm yet he gave up 6 earned runs...

Wow. Only 1 runner reached that inning.

Come on, lay off Prior, he's been good to us.

Sorry, but when the Cubs are sucking, I have trouble being optimistic.

What's wrong with boystown?

his location isn't good enough to really challenge anyone tonight.

That's even worse, why give the Cards a even bigger advantage by keeping everything on the outer 3rd of the plate?

He's missed in the zone, challenge them inside, hopefully it'll go further inside than back over the plate.

Those aren't the cards... those are fans and media.

Boystown isnt Wrigleyville

What is? I live in Wrigleyville, and I kinda like having Boystown next door. Some good restaurants. And the pride parade is awesome.
