Sweet! Joe Morgan!

And I'm sure he'll get a great reception when he returns to Wrigley in 3 weeks.

I completely agree with those of you that say we stole one yesterday. If Neifi doesnt make that play at the end I think that we lose. But all that matters is the "W". As confident as I could be with the pitching matchup, we suck against average pitchers. The cubs do not do a very good job of beating up on lesser pitchers. Lets hope we can pull this one out. Ah, who am I kidding we suck too much to win this one

Any chance of Steve Stone???

I have yet to hear him doing a Cubs game due to blackout restrictions..

Lee kills Suppan, and Pujols kills Prior. So it should be another good game.

And Walker should have a better game, too.

Neifi and/or Hollandsworth need a day (or week (or month)) off, I hope we see Cedeno or Murton.

I'd also like to see a proper line-up configuration, you know with the proper clean-up guy batting 4th regardless of what hand the pitcher uses.

Agreed. I really would like to see Murton get in there, but Suppan's ERA against left-handed batting this year is 5.75 while his ERA against righties is 2.93. Knowing that, would you still start Murton? Neifi just plain sucks at getting on base. And he sucks even more when he is batting left-handed, so even though Suppan is so much more successful against righties than he is against lefties, maybe we can find a justification for playing Cedeno.

Didn't know about that extreme of a split, I don't know.

I'm definately sticking with my want for ARAM to hit 4th (seems so dumb to have to point that out)

Aram - vs. Left: .360 vs. Right: .299

Burny - vs. Left: .253 vs. Right: .292

Conclusion Aramis is freaking on fire and should be batting clean-up.

I'm sure Fred could make a pretty chart, but he is hitting .429 with 7HR and 14RBI over his last 10 games. With only 3 strikeouts!

Can't argue with those numbers. How about:

Hairston, Jr.

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Burnitz

Barrett

Hollandsworth

Cedeno?

The only problem with that is that Blanco is likely to catch Prior, so...

Hairston, Jr.

Walker

Lee

Ramirez

Burnitz

Cedeno

Hollandsworth

Blanco?

I don't know. I'm sure glad I'm not managing the Cubs. I'd probably be more hated that Baker, if thats possible.

Posted this in another thread yesterday, but I'll repeat it here.

I wouldn't try to suggest for a minute that Burnitz is a better hitter than Ramirez, because he's not. But look at these splits, and there's 2 things that jump out at me. 1.) Burnitz is a very very patient hitter when he's inserted in between Lee and Ramirez. I love his walk rate of 0.153 and his OBP of 0.378. 2.) Ramirez is driving in runs at the same rate, whether he's hitting 4th beind Lee or 5th behind Burnitz. I just don't see Burnitz in the 4 spot against right handers as being a problem.

Burnitz AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
batting 4th 163 31 46 9 0 7 76 20 25 23 0.282 0.378 0.466 0.844
batting 5th 106 18 32 6 1 5 55 17 6 19 0.302 0.333 0.519 0.852

Ramirez AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS
batting 4th 168 28 52 16 0 13 107 34 17 22 0.310 0.373 0.637 1.010
batting 5th 160 25 54 6 0 12 96 34 11 17 0.338 0.384 0.600 0.984

Using a slightly longer sample than you did..... both players are hitting very well over the last 2 weeks.....

07/10 - 07/23 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS

Let's hope that Walker can get it together. I'll bet bottom dollar he hasn't been sleeping well recently.
