It sounds like the umpiring crew is having trouble keeping control in Montgomery

It sounds like the home plate ump is trying to make some trouble.

Anyone care to explain for those of us who are unable to listen?

"Controversial" (Ron) called strike three with the leadoff runner on with nobody out. Dickerson went to argue and returned to the dugout. Either he kept jawing or blue was upset about the fact that everyone has questioned their calls and was looking for a fight.

Gotta love the good old HBP to drive in the go ahead run. BTW, that kid that is yelling in the background is really really annoying.

ha ha, Ron needs to drop a soda on him, he's really making the south sound back.

Walk makes it a 2 run lead.

The umps have made plenty of controversial calls during the game, and the crew chief has been giving it back to the both managers when they come out to argue. DJAXX reviewed the play I was referring to.

Way to take one for the team, Creighton!

David Aardsma has not pitched since the 20th and is NOT warming up right now in a save situation for WT. :?

EDIT: Ron doesn't know if Aardsma is hurt or not.

I can't believe the crew hasn't thrown anyone out. Then again, I've seen this crew. Ron is saying that the Creighton error has been ruled a double!?!?!?!?!!?

what terrible scoring on the Creighton play.

The scorer said that it was a line drive and Matt had to come in. Nevermind that Matt had the ball in his glove and lost it.

CUBS SALVAGE SERIES SPLIT AT “THE JACK”

Daytona Relied On The Long Ball And A Solid Pitching Performance From Juan Mateo To End The Four-Game Set On A High Note

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—The Daytona Cubs needed a little boost on Saturday night to help salvage a series split against the first place Brevard County Manatees, and 2,933 screaming fans at Jackie Robinson Ballpark were happy to oblige.

In front of a rabid fireworks crowd at “The Jack” the Cubs relied on a pair of solo bombs from right fielder J.J. Johnson and first baseman Brian Dopirak, as well as a rock solid performance from the Daytona pitching staff as they held on to win the series finale over the Manatees by a final of 3-2.

Righty Juan Mateo got the nod for Daytona and went six full innings as he gave up just one earned run on six hits for the no-decision. Cubs reliever Alfredo Polanco (1-1) was credited with his first victory in Daytona after logging 1.2 innings of work in the seventh and eighth as he held Brevard County to one run on two hits.

The Cubs were also led at the plate by newcomer Jeff Culpepper who went 2-for-3 with a pair of base hits and later added a sharp grounder in the seventh frame that caused Manatees first baseman Jeff Eure to commit two errors and allow pinch runner Paul O’Toole to score the go-ahead run for Daytona.

Manatees southpaw reliever Jeremy Lewis (5-6) was charged with the loss after giving up the unearned run on Eure’s blunder, just one night after the lefty was credited with the win in the back end of Friday’s double-header in Viera.

With the victory the Cubs salvaged a four-game split with the Manatees as they improved to 10-18 as Brevard County dropped to 17-11 on the second half.

Daytona is now set to begin a four-game series against the Western Division powerhouse Dunedin Blue Jays at Jackie Robinson Ballpark beginning on Sunday evening.

The series opener is slated to feature a pair of standout southpaws as the Cubs will send lefty J.R. Mathes (7-5, 3.29 ERA) to the mound and the Blue Jays will counter with left-hander Kurt Isenberg (7-7, 4.19 ERA).

First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.EST.

Veal pitched again today in Mesa and posted a good line: 3.0 IP 1 hit, 1ER, 4/1 (also had a throwing error). Francisco allowed 2 ER in 2.1 IP though and got the loss.

Hagerty pitched the 9th inning for Boise. He gave up 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 wild pitch, and perhaps most importantly, no runs and no hit batters. His ERA is now down to 21.60.

Peoria: RHP Jesse Estrada (5-8, 5.06 ERA) @ RHP Po-Hsuan Keng (2-4, 5.52 ERA)

Estrada was hit by a line drive and had to leave the game. Hope he's ok. :( From the Chiefs web page:

A scary moment came with Armstrong at second and Snavely at the plate. Snavely lined a pitch back to the mound and off Estrada’s right leg. The ball bounced to the Lugnuts dugout as Snavely advanced to second and Armstrong scored for a 5-4 Lugnuts lead. Estrada fell to the ground in obvious pain clutching his knee. He was attended to by the trainers from both teams and helped off the field. Estrada was immediately taken to a local hospital for X-Rays and no immediate report was available.

Some better news:

Sam Fuld (CF) and Eric Patterson (2B) - The Chiefs top two hitters in the lineup combined to go 6-for-9 with three runs scored, three RBI, a double and a home run. Fuld has been on a tear in July with more hits than games played and he is now 7-for 13 in the series while Patterson stretch his league leading average to .339 with his 9th homer of the year.

Notes… Sam Fuld has three straight multi-hits games and 30 hits in 21 games in July…Eric Patterson now leads the team with 32 multi-hit games and 12 3-hit games…

Carlos Marmol at West Tenn

First 3 starts: 13.1 IP, 17 H, 2 HR, 15 BB, 7 K, 6.08 ERA

Last 3 starts: 19 IP, 10 H, 3 HR, 6 BB, 22 K, 1.42 ERA

All about the control.

In those last three starts, the three solo shots are the only runs he's given up.
