OK, I have something to report regarding the Cubs and Reds working out a possible deal for Adam Dunn. Before I post it, I just want to say that yes, I am a new poster here and this is my first post, and I know how a lot of times you will see people come on boards across the internet and report a false news item in order to get people's hopes up and then have a laugh at it. This is NOT my intention at all. I've been on the ESPN and Cubs.com boards and I know how annoying trolls can be when they do that kind of stuff...I would NEVER do that. So, let me proceed:

I have a friend who works for the Cincinnati Reds. This guy isn't exactly a high-ranking official for the Reds or anything like that, but he usually has access to information from the organization and I might add that he has been right on a few of the Reds moves in the past. He told me Austin Kearns would be demoted a few hours before it became official, and also knew about the Reds inking Joe Randa to a contact a day before that happened, so I consider him very reliable..he hasn't been wrong yet. I talked to him a couple hours ago, and I am so pumped because of what he told me, I could hardly believe it. He says he has heard that there is a deal between the Reds and Cubs that should be completed and should become official within the next 48 hours. Here is what the deal will be:

The Cubs get: Adam Dunn

The Reds get: Corey Patterson, Rich Hill, Sergio Mitre

Again, I know some people might not believe this since I'm a new poster, but I would NEVER make anything up like this, I just don't troll. If I end up being wrong, the mods can ban me if they feel the need to, but my source said he is certain this will go down, and he hasn't been wrong before, so there's no doubt in my mind it'll happen.

Welcome to the board!!!! We all hope you are right, only time will tell!

Thanks for the welcoming. I'm pretty confident I'll be right, this is a reliable source. :)

pardon me while i dont get my hopes up.

Yes, I can understand why you think this'll end up being untrue, but like I said, this is an extremely reliable source who hasn't been wrong yet, so I'm certain this will happen.

I sincerely hope you are right.

Oh please be right!

Welcome aboard dude. If this is true, I will officially nominate you for the , "Best first post ever" award.

I have to edit the title to reflect this. Please don't take it the wrong way, and one of the mods will edit it out if the trade does go down.

I'm a huge Corey Patterson fan, but I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. And welcome to the board!

I hope this is true for your sake. If it isn't, people are going to jump all over you. With that said, I would be very pleased if that happened.

Yeah, I realize that, but I wouldn't have posted it unless my source was absolutely sure it would happen.

OK, sure, no problem.

Okay, color me hopeful but cynical here, so I apologize if I come off as a bit of a jerk. I'm just wondering about a few things.

Did you and your friend discuss this trade in-depth at all or did he just tell you the terms of the deal and leave it at that? Did he say why the Reds were interested specifically in those two pitchers and Patterson? Did he say that cash or other prospects might change hands?

Do you post on any other message boards, out of curiosity? If you do, what's your screen name on those boards?

Finally, what's the motivation for the Reds to deal Dunn to the Cubs for this package? Did the negotiations between them and other teams fall apart (like with Houston), or were they not contacted? Also, why did they trade their best young hitter to a division rival?

I like to have reasons and everything, as you may understand. You may say you're not a troll...but unfortunately, on the Internet, one can never be sure with a new poster.

That sounds like a reasonable trade actually. Here's to hoping it happens!

My initial thought was...then why the trade today. But the more I thought about it the more it makes sense. Gerut would replace Burnitz in 2006 in RF, in a platoon like situation with Murton. And this year, as he gets healthier (I heard Len and Bren say he was at 75%) he can spell all 3 OF positions as a super OF sub. We definitely won't be picking up Burnitz's option and given the pathetic FAs this year it'd be nice to not have that postion filled (and extremely cheaply) before the offseason. Hopefully the organization will see that JHJR is the best option to keep center warm for Pie. So then our OF would be locked up. And with Nomar buying a home in Winnetka, he may be back as well. Hopefully Walker keeps it warm for Lewis and there you go, all positions are locked up. Sign BJ Ryan in the offseason and Hendry can get some early Christmas shopping done!

Sorry but he didn't go into any in-depth details about this deal, but it's interesting to note that about a week ago he told me the Reds proposed a deal involving Dunn to the Astros for Jason Lane and Brandon Backe that the Astros turned down, so apparently the Reds at least wanted an ML-ready OF if they were going to deal away Dunn.

I posted on ESPN under the name nolimits3 for a short time, but I mostly just lurked.

Or save money and re-sign Dempster.

And if this trade goes down, poor Rich Hill (and his HR rate).

I hope this isn't the Levine thread part deux....

I'd hate to see Hill go, especially to the Great American Ballpark for his sake. And I don't want Wills Version 2.0 but this time in in our division.

But Dunn in Cubbie blue = :P

And if that's the actuall trade we'd be back to the proper amount of position players vs. pitchers....

i swear you all are on in this just so you can torment me

Hahah, you found us out...its actually Tree, and we all just played along reacting as we normally would with cautious optimism giving way to grandoise ideas of the offseason and the dynasty Hendry just created by trading for Dunn.

Either this guy is good and is feeding stuff from our own board, OR he could be very right. Isn't this the same deal Vance spoke from his Astros source OML
