He isn't chopped liver, I'm just saying hes an average pitcher. He has a career ERA of 3.7, which isn't impressive either.

Theres hundreds of pitchers that have recieved poor run support in the history of baseball, theres also hundreds of pitchers who have won a couple of games in the playoffs. Kerry Wood bursted on the scene with amazing power and pitching prowess, but has been a bust ever since.

Hes a bigger version of AJ Burnett.

you just keep changing your argument every time you proved wrong lol

Wood=Right shoulder stiffness. What else is new.

Cubs weren't "taking a chance" according to Kasper, but i'd be very surprised if Wood doesn't land on the DL once again.

Sorry, he really isn't impressive. 14 wins was his best season as a starter in 2004.

Hes been in the league for 6 seasons, and only has 70 wins.

Quite Astute baseball knowledge to use a team stat like Wins to judge a pitcher.

Just an FYI almost ALL baseball scholars understand Wins are almost (nearly) worthless as an indicator of pitching performance. WHIP, BB/9, K/9, K/BB, ERA, and .BAA are all above a Team stat like wins.

I'm a huge Kerry Wood fan and agree there is no point getting mad at a guy that has been a big contributor to the '98 and '03 playoff teams because he gets hurt. It's not like it is from any lack of effort or desire by him.

However, it is incredibly frustrating that this keeps happening. I can almost hear the mantra now:

"It is nothing major. We just took him out as a precaution and to err on the safe side. We will reevaluate tomorrow morning and if he is feeling OK he won't miss a start."

And then he will be out for 6 weeks.

Get well soon Kerry.

Well there goes Ronny's playing time for a week. It's fun to watch this team win they win in spite of Dusty, this is one of those nights when they can't overcome his hard headedness

I understand frustrations. He's my favorite Cub, and he frustrates me as well. But I just can't stand the Kerry Wood bashing, the second he get hurt.

He plays with passion, he's incredibly loyal, he's a fiery leader, he has the respect of his teammates, he's a good teammate, and he's never not tried 100 percent.

I respect him immensely, and I hate hearing him badmouthed. Maybe that's my problem. I dunno.

How am I being "proved wrong"? I don't think anybody is denying what I've posted. I don't consider myself a "professor" or "scholor" of baseball. From a diehard fan's perspective, this guy is getting paid way more then hes worth, and has been given way too much attention, just like AJ Burnett. But Badger, Kerry Wood refuses to acknowledge he needs to change his mechanics. Hes just as stubborn as anybody else. He thinks theres nothing wrong with his pitching mechanics.

Anyways, back to baseball.

Earlier today, a Reds fan posted a rumor about the Cubs trading Hill, CPatt and Mitre to the Reds for Adam Dunn in Transactions. Right after Wood was taken out of the game with what we now know is shoulder stiffness, Bruce Miles entered a post denying any such trade was in the works. I wonder if the timing of that denial had anything to do with Wood getting injured. Hill would certainly be the first guy I would think to replace Wood...

Every time I start getting my hopes up, something like this happens to punch me in the gut.

What's most disappointing is I had such high hopes for KW after his last start where he just dominated. He pitched ahead of hitters, didn't walk guys, and made me believe that he can help us to the WC.

Then he gets hurt...agan.

For those of you disagreeing with OldHappyCubFan, he is right in saying that Kerry Wood is overrated.

Miles denied before the injury

Miles made that post before Wood left the game.

Dusty Baker has butchered the lineup yet again tonight, and has put in Hollandsworthless, and Gerut, both guys not proving to have any offense. I woulden't mind so much if he used Gerut in LF, but please don't sub in for Hairston Jr.

This is why the Cubs need a trade for Pierre. Pierre solidifys the top of the lineup. What happens after Aram and Burnitz I really don't care about.

I don't think he was a Reds fan(although it's certainly possible I missed it), and it was last night. I would think that Mitre would get the rotation nod before Hill, but nothing would surpirse me at this point.

Well, there goes that theory...

Really, it seemed to be right after? Oh, well....

Gerut has proven to not have any offense in 4 AB's? Wow.

Also have you not realized that Hairston has slumped lately and has put up basically the same OPS as Hollandsworth?
