I'm going to try to come up with some reasons why the Cubs are struggling so bad. There are probably thousands so feel free to add your own.

1. Dusty Baker is our manager

2. Corey Patterson is on the roster

3. Neifi Perez is the evryday SS

4. Jose Macias Pinch Hits with the bases loaded

5. Enrique Wilson was in the majors for too long

6. The Cubs can't hit rookies or pitchers with bad records (We lost to Colon of ATL and we lost to a 1-6 pitcher once to)

7. The Cardinals can't lose

8. life is cruel

9. William Sianis owned a goat

I could go on and on forever....

10. Derrek Lee is beginning to look vaguely human again.

11. Nomar has been injured since dinosaurs roamed the Earth.

12. Greg Maddux is less consistent this year.

13. Bad things happen so often that they are almost expected there's a pre-emptive internal groan now.

I still say any list of why we suck should start first and foremost with this:

1. INJURIES

With a healthy Kerry, Prior, Nomar, and Walker for the entire season we would be in a different spot altogether. We probably still wouldn't be contending for the division, but we'd be in a stronger position for the wild card.

All the finger pointing at Corey, Dusty, Neifi, and the rest takes a backseat to injuries, IMO.

BS........ Look at Atlanta's injuries. Half their lineup is rookies and they are still winning.

The big difference: the rookies get a chance to play in Atlanta...

1-5. Dusty

6-8. Guys who needed to have good years, Nomar and Patterson, haven't come through.

9-10. Injuries to Prior & Wood, again. Hendry should really look to trade Wood in the offseason for a bat, and replace Wood w/ a durable pitcher.

Offseason-you can't lose production from Alou, Sosa, Grud's,starting pitcher in Clement, and not have a closer, as well as losing Farnsworth..who had his moments.

Oh we added Burnitz. The offseason my friend.

There are two reasons this season has been a failure to this point.

Dusty

Injuries

Every single problem can be traced to one of those two reasons, IMO. That, and the Injuries are made a much bigger problem because of Dusty's inability to deal with the roster to replace injured players...

Hey guys, just remember that it's always darkest just before...

yeah, I got nuthin.

You folks really are amazing fans. It will get better, because my Dad needs to see at least 1 World Series in his life.

Your dad wasn't around in 1945?

Born in 48.

The 69 Cubs ripped his heart out and jumped up and down on it. It's why he raised me a Card fan. He always told me it would be child abuse to raise me a Cub fan ;)

I'm 31, and my dad was born in 1946, so CCF's dad wasn't necessarily around in 1945.

My dad passed away in 1998, so he didn't get to see it either. But he wasn't a Cubs fan so it probably didn't bother him too much. Thank God for my Uncle Tommy who made sure I got a good baseball foundation after my parents split up.

Uncle Tommy, by the way, was born in 1936 and isn't getting any healthier. So it would be nice if the Cubs could win soon.

I don't know the guy, never met him, or even seem him play save for clips, but the person I'm most worried about is Ronny. He's one of the guys that I could honestly see having the big one right after they win. But I'm sure he'd have a smile on his face.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ron Santo last year. It was awesome--he was so nice.

I've been rooting that much harder for the Cubs ever since I met him. He deserves to see the Cubs win it all before he leaves this earth.

Todays tribune:

Perez entered Tuesday's action with the lowest on-base percentage in the leadoff spot (.264) of any National League hitter. Patterson's .268 on-base percentage in the top spot was second worst in the NL.

Jerry Hairston, who ranks third among NL leadoff men with a .394 on-base percentage, was out of the starting lineup despite going 4-for-7 with two walks in his previous two games leading off.

Thats a good reason.

If a baseball team were run like a real business, this would be cause for firing the manager. There is no excuse. None. It's just the wrong thing to do.

Only Baker could find a way to waste the NL's 1st half MVP. Amazing!

During Tuesday night's broadcast, Santo was really ripping the team for its lack of hitting. He was clearly referring to the bases loaded situation. It's odd to hear him finally something critical of this team, but you can tell it hurts him to do it. He just wants this team to win so bad.
