If we agree the Cubs will be in the playoffs these 3 starts by their starters has to be encouraging. Pretty much, this is going to be the 3 starters in the WC round. Nice if they finish strong.

That'll be the hope, they all should have about 5 starts left, hopefully theyll all be quality starts from them.

Just pitch well and be healthy come the playoffs, and they should be fine. It will be interesting if we do get the Phillies. They are bad against lefties. Any chance we see Peterson or Imanaga? They have 28 to go. I think a 16-12 finish should get them home games in the WC. Phillies would have to go 19-9 to beat them. It would also give them another 92 win season.

Zeferjahn, Webb, and Palencia need to get it together ASAP.

Zeferjahn is clearly a work in progress.  Ain't nobody got time for that down the stretch in a playoff race.

Barring a miracle my assumption is Brown's year is done. They really need to figure out that issue this offseason.

Swanson too. Never-mind the defense that may or may not have been the difference in any of these 1 run losses by turning an extra double play or applying a tag correctly) but his bat was valuable against left handed pitching too.

Had a chance to get within striking distance of Milwaukee with a relatively easy schedule and they go 5-7.

Maybe I’m wrong. Cubs have 6 total hits and 0 runs in their last 3 of such games in the final game of every and away trip, coincidentally.

They really need Shaw back. Putting aside Swanson’s glove he was also great at hitting lefties. Their ticket to a deep playoff run is scoring runs while the pitching is asked not to horsefeathers things up. Like Sam Darnold or Jalen Hurts. The 2023 Rangers or last year Bluejays is their inspiration.

Are you saying Swanson is done for the year? I am not seeing that narrative anywhere. 4-6 weeks would give him back around 2 weeks to go to back for the playoffs. I think he is far more likely than Brown, to help the Cubs in the playoffs. If the injury is 4-6 weeks before even picking up a bat, sure, it could be a problem. But typically when I hear out 4-6 weeks I assume that is considering being ready to be back in action at that time. Not back to baseball activities-rehab. I’m not saying you are wrong. I am just wondering if I am viewing it incorrectly. I haven’t heard anyone suggest Sansby won’t be back.

Yes, Shaw coming back would help. He has to be close, I would think. Probably the guy that add when rosters expand.

He isn’t technically released. By that, I mean he may play against the Cubs this weekend. If no one claims him, which could happen, he goes back to the Reds. I don’t see the Cubs taking him, unless they want to make sure he doesn’t play against them. I hope someone does take him so we don’t have to FACE him.

That's not how these waivers work.  He isn't getting released.  The Reds put him on waivers in the hope someone claims him and they save some money.  If they aren't going to save money, there's no point in letting him go.

But then the Cubs would be in the hook for around $2.5M. That is a lot of money to spend just so a guy doesn’t play against you.
