The triple threat of Lee, A-Ram and Burnitz is yet to be broken up. That's just the way it should go, I guess. Something Dusty actually got right. Mix and match A-Ram and Burnitz and all is well.

He'll keep hitting Burnitz cleanup from time to time, and that is a no-no in my book.

Not that I'm in favor of putting Burnitz cleanup...but him being in the 4 spot isn't even near the top of the list of why the Cubs are underperforming.

Oh, I agree. Amongst the Cubs offensive problems, Burnitz batting cleanup is not the biggest one, but I still don't like it (I guess that means I agree with you).

You realize that Corey hits better against lefties than righties, right?

Sad that seeing him hit .253 at something seems awesome

Last year he seemed to have a clue at the plate :(
He has looked better the last week or so. He hasn't gotten the greatest results but he is working the count a lot better (3 out of his 4 at bats went to full counts today and he got screwed on the one call) and he is laying off some pitches that he was swinging at in the past. He still has a way to go but he is starting to show some signs of life.

He didn't hit better against lefties in 2002 and 2003, and thus far in 2005.

I did enjoy telling people last year that he hit better vs lefties. Wish that could have lasted.

Back to the topic of lineups instead of Patterson:

Cedeno

Barrett

Lee

Burnitz

Ramirez

Patterson

Dubois

Walker

Pitcher

I would like Walker in the 8th spot to take pitches and work the inning in front of the pitcher something Barrett never does and something Cedeno can't be expected to do without seeing MLB pitching for an extended period of time.

Here's my vote for a starting lineup. You can subsitute Cedeno for Perez, and if neither one of them shows any signs of life, at least Macias is hitting 0.261 / 0.278 / 0.319 / 0.597.

04/04 - 07/02 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS

Todd Walker - 2B (He takes pitches, works counts etc..)

Corey Patterson - CF

D. Lee - 1B

Aramis Ramirez - 3B

Jeromy Burnitz - RF

Hollandsworth - LF

Neifi Perez - SS

Michael Barrett - C

Pitcher..

Nomar will be back in less than a month I guess. I hope we can keep our offense togather until he does.

You ruined it. We almost made it through two pages of posts without seeing Patterson or Perez anywhere near the top of the order. I think it's salvageable though. Let's all print off this particular thread and mail it to Dusty. At this point, I don't care if he did this line up:

Lee

Burnitz

Ramirez

Walker

Hairston

Barrett

Patterson

Cedeno

It would still be better than starting a line up card with the names Patterson and/or Neifi.

Posted

1. Hairston CF

2. Walka

3. Lee

4 ARamis (not hittng him behind Lee is the 2nd biggest lineup mistake Dusty's made all year)

5. Burnitz

6. Barrett (although he's been struggling of late he's no #8 hitter)

7. Holla

8. Cedeno

9. Pitcher

Cedeno would be a good fit at #2 as well. That kids going to be good. A 22 year old kid who can hit the ball the other way (like he advanced the runner the other day) is pretty impressive. And he still hasn't maxzimized his physical potential. With Neifi reverting back to career levels Hendry needs to override Baker and get this kid in there NOW.

BTW Patterson gets traded to to the DRays for a bag of baseballs. Number one at least they're useful and number 2 I figure it'd best served to send this eyesore to the team with the lowest atttendance. Enough people have suffered already.

WOW! Look at the first post of this thread. My prediction came true about Corey Patterson. We may just see this lineup!

EDIT: w/o Dubois

Let the kids play...

1. Greenberg -- CF (the kid has plate patience and decent speed)

2. Walker -- 2B

3. Lee -- 1B

4. Ramirez -- 3B

5. Murton -- LF

6. Burnitz -- RF

7. Cedeno -- SS

8. Barrett -- C

If Lee is still out, then put Hairston at 2B and Walker at 1B.

I think Hairston can play CF and lead off as well, but i'd like to see what Greenberg can do if given the chance. I hate platooning players with lefty/righty combos etc.

Why help Dusty? The only helping I would provide to Dusty at this point is calling the moving van to get him the * out of town.

I would prefer to see Cedeno in there, but I think Dusty holds on to a shred of 'his guys':

While Lee is out:

1. Hairston 2B

2. Perez SS

3. Walker 1B

4. Ramirez 3B

5. Burnitz RF

6. Murton LF

7. Barrett C

8. Greenberg CF

When Lee returns, Greenberg gets sent back down or benched:

1. Hairston CF

2. Perez SS

3. Lee 1B

4. Ramirez 3B

5. Burnitz RF

6. Walker 2B

7. Murton LF

8. Barrett C

Considering last night's "shake-up", I go with this:

No Lee:

Hairston CF

Cedeno SS

Walker 2B

Ramirez 3B

Burnitz RF

Holla 1B

Barrett C

Murton LF

Pitcher

I hate to put Murton that far down in the order, but I'm not sure where else I want him. Plus, I don't really want him to feel pressure by being slotted into a top spot right off the bat. I put that lineup out there FOR THE ENTIRE MARLINS SERIES and see what happens.

With Lee:

Hairston CF

Walker 2B

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Burnitz RF

Holla LF

Barrett C

Cedeno SS

Pitcher

As much as I'd like to get Murton in the lineup, I just don't think it's realistic that Hollandsworth will be benched right now. Whichever way it plays out, I hope for three things; 1. Do not play Macias in CF (or anywhere else); 2. Start Cedeno; 3. Stick with a lineup for a while to see if it can work (don't change it every freakin' game).

I like this lineup, with hairston rotating around between CF, LF and 2B
