not sure what the possible strategy is unless he's hurt. he's not gonna help the big club yet unless they want to throw him in the bullpen

Is the weather gonna be bad?

Iowa was rained out today so maybe?

But after how they weren’t forthcoming last season with his shoulder, I’m definitely thinking about a potential injury. It’s odd to let him ramp up all spring for just 2 starts and than start being “strategic.”

We're going to need high ceiling pitching down the stretch and he fits that model, so there's an impulse to slow him down and then let him rip in the second half, but also he's probably not good enough yet, and is only going to get there with more reps.

So that....doesn't sound great.

Top prospect Jaxon Wiggins is healthy and also pitching at Triple A but still has significant developmental hurdles to cross.

in an article about all of the SP options the Cubs have in house in the wake of the Horton news.  It's not impossible that was wrong or something happened in the 24 hours since but it feels like an injury would have come up in talking to folks for that article.

Hopefully this is about the weather or maybe it's semantics and he's going to be the piggback for one of the doubleheader games tomorrow.

Yeah, with the Horton injury and how he developed last year, then essentially ran out of innings at the end of the year, it wouldn't surprise me if we see him going like 2 innings at a crack for a month or two. Then, ramp him up in June, assuming he's a viable big league option at that point, so you have him as a rotation possibility for the playoffs and you're not worried about how many innings he's thrown this season.

It's certainly possible it's an injury but that would be some odd phrasing if that's the case.

Eli Lovich, who had a Morel-ian contact rate at MB last year, is a hair under 95% (Arraez-ian) through 15 PAs.

THAT won't continue, but it'd be cool if he's got a decent hit tool now.

As you'd hope with a top round college guy Reid appears to be too good for MB.  Hopefully he moves up to SB as soon as the weather turns.

Reid nice.  He's college, but he pitched 19 innings at OK State and then 88 at Abilene Christian.  Not a lot of innings, and Abilene Christian isn't the highest level of competition.  Coming right in and throwing strikes, I think that's pretty cool.  Fun to see a fast start for him.
