Think people are going to be looking at Indiana - Oregon as the de facto National Championship game?

Yeah, I'd imagine so. Two highest seeds remaining, and would likely be 1 vs 3 if 2 wasn't in the same conference as 1 while making the conference championship.

I don't think either team can take Miami's defense or Ole Miss' offense lightly though.

I agree, in fact, from an IU standpoint, things get significantly tougher, Oregon, Miami and Ole Miss are far better teams than Alabama.  All of them have a better balance on offense including one of the best RB in the country - Lacy and one the best WR - Toney, plus all the weapons on Oregon.

I kinda want Ole Miss to win it all at this point.  Losing Lane Kiffin and then winning the National Championship within weeks of each event happening would be the perfect capper to one of the weirdest stories in recent memory.

I definitely do but as I said before, I didn’t think either Miami or Ole Miss would be in the semis.

give me three good games and I’ll be happy. Don’t really care who wins. I guess maybe not Miami since they’ve won most recently but even then it’s been 25 years. So it’s not like they won a decade ago.

Haven't read this whole thread so IDK if this was mentioned, but IU is the only team in playoff history (2 years) to win a playoff game after having a BYE. Also I guess it could've been mentioned on broadcasts, but I only watched the IU and Oregon/TT games with sound on.

Also, I think it's pretty crappy that the #1 seed will have to face teams with more rest than them if they make it to the championship game. Oregon played Wed, IU Thursday. Then the other semifinal is next Thursday while IU plays Friday.

Yup, it's an interesting stat that's been making the rounds including here.  I know it was mentioned on the IU broadcast a few times at least.

As far as the rest, Oregon played Thursday as well so there's only 4 hours rest difference between the two.  Miami was the one who played Wednesday so that's why they are having the Thursday game next week.  I get wanting to give the #1 seed the rest advantage, but I think the committee wants to send people to the bowl game that fits tradition first (so sending IU to the Rose Bowl makes them happier than sending them to the Cotton Bowl just to give them the rest advantage).

And as I said, Oregon only as a 4 hour rest advantage, and as far as the championship game, both teams get a longer than normal week between games anyway so I doubt the difference between 10 days and 11 days between games means that much when you are used to playing 7.

IDK why I was thinking Oregon was the night game on Wednesday. But yeah, I figured the thing with getting IU in the Rose for tradition's sake.

The rest discrepancy comes for the title game, where the winner of Ole MIss/Miami game gets a full extra day of rest than the winner of IU/Oregon

I doubt that will be much of a factor. Last year ND had a 2-day rest disadvantage in the semis vs Penn State and won, then had a 1-day rest advantage for the title game vs Ohio State and lost.

Illinois State vs. Montana State for the FCS Championship tonight.  Illinois State has a receiver, Daniel Sobkowicz, he'll get some camp invites, an Adam Thielen, Cooper Kupp type, think he's taller than both of them, has a good chance to catch on somewhere.  I'd like the Bears to take a look at him as a UDFA next camp.

Illinois St on quite the heater right now. They got smoked in their final regular season game, which cost them a home game in the playoffs, but have won 4 straight on the road, including over No. 1 North Dakota St, to make the final.

Montana St has been the third best team in FCS over the past 6 seasons. They lost in the final twice and in the semifinal to the eventual champion two other times.

Illinois St-Montana St going to over time. Great game so far.

Helluva game!  ISU has been in control since the half.

Yeah, when Montana St scored right before half to make it 21-7 and they were getting the ball to start the second half, I didn't think ISU had much of a chance. MSU had scored TDs on 3 of 4 possessions so far. But ISU turned it around.

Ugh I hate that it came down to the damn kickers.

Should have gone for it in the fourth, with the way their offense was cooking they had a real good chance.

Noticed throughout the game they were, for an extra point, barely making them, Considering the blocked FG, after the OT TD, I thought oh horsefeathers, maybe, they should go for two.

I kind of wanted them to go for 2 when they scored to go down by 8 in the 4th, knowing that they would have to score a touchdown again. They had the momentum on offense, but chose to kick every time. This wasn't a team you wanted to give an extra chance to if you didn't have to. Spack has to be rethinking a lot of his decisions late in that game.

Either way, what a Cinderella run. They'll probably never have the consistency of the Montana and Dakota schools, but it's been fun to see ISU pull off a few runs in the past decade or so.
