I hope the Hawks are more competitive this season, and that starts with scoring more than 2 goals per game. So, leading the league in goals scored as of today is a start.

Two years ago, they finished with 52 points, 30 points shy of being a normal bad team and 50 points shy of being a playoff team.

Last year they finished with 61 points, 15 points shy of being a normal bad team and 35 points shy of a playoff team.

This year, if they can finish even with the other 5th place teams in the league, it's a significant jump. If they can somehow get 90 points, they'll be exciting.

The biggest takeaway for me so far is that they've been competitive in every game.

Bedard has been pretty damn good as well, had no idea his passing skills and sight were this good.  Also, like he's playing a little chippy, he's done being the punching bag.  Think he was quoted along the lines of he's done taking horsefeathers from everyone.

It was Nazar’s quote on live tv, referencing Bedard, while sitting right next to him.

NHL refs are so bad.

Even conceding the no goal call, which was wrong, the penalty on Bedard was weak and cost the Hawks the last two minutes of regulation.

Are the hawks wc material?

I'm buying that they're a WC contender. They've been competitive in all 7 games so far. They have good goaltending. Nazar is turning into a real two-way gem. Bedard is playing with more confidence than he ever has. They're playing with heart. The Hawks are as good as the Kings or Blues, both playoff teams last season.

I think they ultimately miss, but they show that they are surely playoff contenders next season. Utah will get in this season. Blues will miss.

I sure hope they make it in this year. I'm really enjoying these games. Shooting has been up the last few games, which was much needed.

Probably not but it would be fun to see them stay in it as long as possible.

Right now they are in, but they’ve played more games than anybody else in the west. And the teams they are ahead of are all teams that are very likely to overtake them. They only play one game this week, at Tampa. Then host LA next Sunday. They play 15 games in about 30 days leading up to American Thanksgiving and that is when playoff pictures start to set.

if they come out of the early November Pacific Northwest trip with ~3 points then maybe they have a chance but that could be a killer week for a young team

I don't expect playoffs but if the Hawks want to play themselves into the conversation, I won't argue

My only expectation for this season will be to see Lardis, Moore and Frondell joining the party.

Right now they aren't a playoff quality team, but they have a definite chance to finish in the top 30, which is a feat in itself after the last few years.

Looking at ELO rankings, they're currently 30th, ahead of Calgary and San Jose, with a bit of a gap yet between them and #29 (Anaheim). There's still a larger gap between them and a playoff spot (16th, which right now is Florida) than them and San Jose, who is way below everyone else.

I have no real playoff hopes this season, I'm just glad we're past the most boring parts of the rebuild

They may skip right by it, god willing, but the most boring part of the rebuild is the part that Detroit and Buffalo have been stuck in, perpetually too good for top picks and not good enough for playoffs. Or an Ottawa/Philly/Vancouver type that makes it once this decade and misses the rest of the time.

the quantity of quality they have at least makes it seem like they can get to the devils level soon, regularly in the hunt even if they have an off year.

alright you guys convinced me. I just picked up two tix (me, wife) for B'Hawks vs Kraken. Had a gift cert burning in my pocket, excited to use it. Berard owes me a hat trick. He owes us all

Dude, the Hawks have been so much fun to watch this year. Hope you get to see a banger.
