Racist says what?

Your hate runs deep and it’s been part of you your whole life. Stop pretending . All it took was Shaw attending an event for your intolerance to show.

No, it took him supporting a homophobic, transphobic, racist POS and I think not supporting someone with those viewpoints is a pretty low bar to clear.

Hate to break this to everyone, but there's a picture with Shaw....and Busch...smiling broadly with Kirk at Wrigley.

This is obviously a case where you've got to separate the players from rooting for the team.  There's a lot of support for Trump and guys like Kirk in the pro athlete ranks.  Could be even more Cubs.  Cubs ownership is also strongly tied to the right.  I know for me, being a Cub fan isn't optional, it's learned behavior from childhood for better or worse.  I couldn't stop rooting for them even if I tried.  So you root for the jersey and what the organization itself has meant to you.  The current players come & go.

Keep your politics to yourself. Ridiculous! , I can’t root for him because he’s a nazi and got permission from team to attend. Crybaby!

Calling someone a crybaby while crying about someone expressing a political view is peak republicuck behavior

Exactly. These other posters that can’t separate that are the types that stop talking to their best friends just because they don’t think exactly like them. Irrational behavior.

Hate to break it to all the posters but you can safely assume half of the Cubs players grew up in small conservative communities and probably support the opposite views. Are the triggered people on this forum going to refuse to wear the jerseys, be real people.

Bunch of hysterical intolerant babies! OMG he went to that event! We can’t have that, sheeesh. Just because he plays in Chicago doesn’t mean he doesn’t have the right to an opposing view.

You're not breaking horsefeathers dude, we're all very aware, it doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

All these horsefeathers meatheads who scream about how pathetic these guys are because they have to gall to hit an occasional popup are all also weirdly fine with the starting third baseman missing two separate September baseball games over this. Weird.

The point is talk baseball and stop being triggered just because ownership allowed him to attend an event. Simple as that.

I wouldn’t let him off if I owned the team but the issue is the reaction of the posters saying they can’t support him because of his connection to Kirk.. Judge him for him not wanting to play vs his political leaning. That’s all I’m saying

please stop talking about "opposing views". it's not about a difference of opinion, it's about a lack of humanity

First of all, typically best friends are a result of people with common interest and/or views. I don’t think someone very liberal would be good friends with someone who is a homophobic, racist, as an example. But in some cases people do have different views. Speaking only for me, if that “best friend” was someone vocal about his/her views, they wouldn’t be my friend long. I know I have friends that think differently than I do. But as long as we are all respectful of the others believes we are good. As for you comment regarding me not buying a Shaw jersey, why is that something you seem to think is wrong? Why would I. I don’t respect the man. I agree there are definitely others who share his views. And if I knew who they were or if they were as vocal about them as Shaw is, I would buy their jersey either. It is my right to buy a jersey of whoever I want. I didn’t say I would boo him. I didn’t even say I won’t cheer for him and root for him to do something that helps the Cubs win. As someone else pointed out, I am a Cubs fan. I root for the team, city and whoever is wearing that jersey. Doesn’t mean I have to like that person or his beliefs. And if I don’t like that persons views or beliefs, why would I wear a nersey with that person’s name.

I’m all for talking about baseball. But that wasn’t what was being discussed. So I gave my opinion.

Yeah. I refused to purchase Marquee when they announced they were partnering up with Sinclair. I haven't bought jerseys in years. Etc... Pretty much as soon as I realized how bad the Ricketts were, they stopped getting my money.

Some of us have morals and ethics and try to live our lives in accordance with them. Others handwave away everything inconvenient and live their lives like nobody is watching. Funnily enough, it's usually the religious folk doing the latter -- which is somewhat at odds with the whole schtick.

Sorry if this was already posted because I guess its been out there for over half a day but here's Shaw "grieving" his "good friend" Charlie Kirk yesterday while his team was busy getting shut out by the Reds:

I think this basically tells you the Cubs in general are not taking these last few games seriously . I’m sure Counsell and upper management  said it was ok.. you can also see it with the rest of the team after clinching. Not sure why they even celebrated the way they did when they haven’t accomplished crap. They were favored in the beginning of the year to win the division and are hobbling in and it’s being accepted with rest of team.

Why shouldn’t the Cubs have celebrated? They absolutely accomplished something. Something they hadn’t done since 2018. They made the playoffs and got to celebrate it. Baseball is hard. Teams don’t get to the playoffs every year. They should celebrate.

They were favoured to win the division on the assumption that it would take high 80s, absolute max 90 wins to do so. Stop being mad at the Cubs for the Brewers going nuclear for that stretch they did, especially because they actually took a few off of them during the 5 game series.
