Man, ESPN's matchup predictor sure doesn't think much of Illinois

The odd's they give Illinois to win each game

Western Michigan 95.8%

Indiana 38.6%

USC 33.8%

Purdue 81.4%

Ohio State 25.6%

Washington 47.5%

Rutgers 71.0%

Maryland 82.3%

Wisconsin 58.2%

Northwestern 88.0%

Florida might not win 5 games this season:

May be an image of 2 people, people playing football and text that says '老の B vs Long LongIsland Island w 55-0 vs South Florida AFCA L 18-16 @ LSU 3 LSU 9/13 7:30 PM ABC @ Miami TBD Vs Texas TBD @ 19 Texas A&M TBD Vs Mississippi St TBD vs Georgia 11/1 3:30 PM ABC Kentucky TBD 20 Ole Miss TBD vs 22 Tennessee TBD vs 14 Florida St TBD'

JFC ... if those rankings end up being even remotely close by the end of the year ...

I'm sure it's heavily weighted toward recruiting rankings at this time of year, and recruiting rankings are often garbage. Gabe Jacas was a no name 3 star committed to Tulane before flipping to Illinois (was also pursued by Temnessee, iirc) and is now an All-American Candidate. He's still counted as a 3 star in the formulas that consider recruiting rankings, which clearly shortchanges his talent.

I'm sure it also doesn't account for coaching, and Bielema has shown that he's a darn good one, while coaches like Manny Diaz (Ron Zook's spiritual successor) have shown they'll find ways to lose games

It appears to use FPI.  I'm not sure I see a huge issue though, the only real outlier seems like the USC game.  Other than that it seems to have them as pretty heavy favorites in home games, underdogs against good teams away and coinflips or better against poor away teams.  Oh and naturally heavy underdogs to OSU.

Didn't they have Duke winning? 33% against USC at home?

Missouri's home game vs UL Lafayette has reportedly been moved up from 4 to 1 pm ET due to excessive heat expected at kickoff.

Yeah, it's going to be 95 here all weekend.  So lame.

Colorado is pretty pretty pretty bad

I haven't seen them yet, but it seemed like an issue when Coach Prime decided neither of the 2 guys who was in the preseason QB battle was going to start tonight

He doesn't know how to pick a QB when it's not his own kid

Down goes Clemson (again)

I put some money on Florida tonight. I dont dislike LSU, just think they are a bit overrated after beating not very good Clemson. Plus Florida should play somewhat inspired

With the new expanded playoff making the offseason shorter and the CFB season now mirroring the NFL in so many ways, I wonder if the "post-Super Bowl hangover" thing will make its way into the sport for national runners-up.

In a related story, Notre Dame's season is effectively over and most of us are ready to ship this new DC Chris Ash to Abu Dhabi

I thought this was funny:

Trending down: Scheduling up

Indiana closed out another gauntlet of a nonconference schedule on Friday, narrowly escaping Indiana State 73-0. The Hoosiers are now 6-0 in nonconference regular-season games under Curt Cignetti, who urges you not to Google any of those opponents. Just be sure they're all really good.

UCLA and VA Tech have fired their head coaches

After getting punked by New Mexico and Old Dominion respectively. Checks out.

I'd say poor UCLA fans but I'm not sure how many they have besides Raisin. Being USC's tag-team partner in the final destruction of the Pac-12 might be the last relevant thing they do for a while, that program is completely directionless

Both ND-A&M and Georgia-Tenn were fun watches today.

Don’t really check this board much anymore but I’m still happily shocked at the way the A&M-ND game ended. Didn’t see that coming at all. Of course, now we’ll probably horsefeathers the bed at home to an unranked team. Lol. Us having an off week and Auburn having to play at Oklahoma last week before coming to Kyle Field this Saturday should be a nice advantage.
