Well gents, what do you think about the Sox trading Devers and what it could mean for the Cubs?

Early opinion is that the Giants just did the Sox a huge favor in their pursuit of Tucker next off season. I can't believe the Giants took that whole salary off of the R.Sox books and while we know he can rake, his D is well below average. Guy is rumored to be a malcontent as well. So what does is mean for us in trying to sign Tucker? Personally, I'd rather give big money and long term security to PCA, as it doesn't seem like Ricketts would sign both of them to big deals. Yeah, they have time on Pete but his price tag gets higher by the week obviously.

OTOH, it would really suck to not sign Tucker knowing we traded away what we did to get him. That would be a kick in the groin so to speak. Thoughts?

I mean the big dogs will be coming after Tucker regardless. At the end of the day, Ricketts has to pay up. Either they will and Tucker signs here because he enjoyed his year here, or he doesn’t because Ricketts wouldn’t pay or Kyle prefers to be elsewhere. On one hand, this makes the Sox players for Kyle, but on the other, it potentially eliminates another big market team in San Fran.

I still wouldn't hate the idea of just deciding to try and overwhelm with offense if they don't find a pitcher out there they love. Bring in Bregman and try to put up 7 runs a game.

I also think it helped the Cubs a bit in that maybe he helps the Giants win a game or two from the Dodgers that maybe they don’t win without him. LA has a have a win or two less at the end of the season and that can give the Cubs a better chance at the first round bye. Whether they have to play the Giants, Phillies, Mets, Dodgers or SD doesn’t really matter to me. They are all good and all series can be a toss up. But being able to play one less series is a bigger deal to me. So I don’t care much that the Giants got better. It might help us. I also don’t care that now maybe the Red Sox have money to spend. San Francisco doesn’t have the money so they neutralize each other. As for putting pressure on Hoyer, sure, it may. But to me that is also a good thing.

😅 I totally deserved that. But it is what happens when posting without reading glasses and not double checking before sending. I wish it was for the reason you are hinting at….. I think I corrected my response now.

It means Hoyer really needs to focus more on adding pitching because that another team with another big bat that they'll have to face later in season and possibly in the post season.

The Red Sox have outfielders coming out of their ass. While it's not impossible for them to pursue Tucker, they're going to have to shuffle a bunch of pieces to make it happen.

Is Bregman presumed to opt out? This injury lessens the chance of that.
