I read a blurb that said Nico is just now starting to throw. If Shaw isn’t ready either due to injury it’s going to be a real struggle at the onset of the season.

While he's clearly being eased in, Nico has been throwing in some fashion since he got to ST.

Would be Berti/Workman/Cowles/Brujan platooning at 2B and 3B and 2 spots on the INF bench, which wouldn't be a disaster I guess if it isn't for too long.  Turner might also play 3B in a pinch, or pinch hit late in the game.

I've noticed this spring that Workman has a really big uppercut in his swing, i'm sure contributing to the K% (and HR).  I wonder if they could make some adjustments for him if they keep him.

Yeah I just hope this is the year he starts hitting the ball in the air more.

I wonder if any of this is intentional on the Cubs' part for very young hitters like Caissie and Alcantara.  Might be better to train them to be good fundamental hitters first and worry about having them lift the ball more later after the establish themselves against MLB pitching?  I'd think that would have helped Morel and Canario instead of falling in love with the HR and living in K-town.

I really like Workman so far. Hope they keep him over Brujan. He's got power and plays great D all over the diamond.

Amaya looks good.  Him being close to his second half self for a full year would be huge.

Huge for sure.

Brown getting knocked around pretty well in his 2nd inning. Can't keep the ball down

Anyone catching his velo?

This game is in front of Statcast, so yes!

He averaged 95.4 today, down from 96.4 on average last year.  I'd guess for it being February that's about where you'd want him to be.

Padres announcers said Santo took the day off today. He meant Coomer, but still.

Santo's been taking the day off for over a decade.
