I don't love going multi-year for a player of this caliber.  That said it's a nominal salary and left handed infielder is not something we're overflowing with on the farm.

I do like that this paired with the Josh Rojas stuff seems to confirm that an (ideally LHH) infielder is a definite item still on the to-do list.

It does appear that way. I agree.

Just going off of baseball reference - looks like he mainly played 2b last season and has split a lot of time between 2b/SS the previous couple seasons. Looks like 9GP at 3b in 2020 and 6 in 2019, with also some outfield experience. I don’t know much about his defensive scouting report, so do we feel like he is a guy who could handle 80 games at 3b if needed (Shaw struggles) or is he truly more of a middle IF bench utility guy who can give you a few spot starts at 3b if needed?

My understanding is that the defense is supposed to be pretty top notch and the questions are around the bat.  So it's probably one of those where it's just assumed he could slide back over to 3rd and excel.  Like if we needed to move Nico over for some reason.

With Kim gone , infield lefty options remaining :

Moncada

Nicky López

Polanco

Frazier

Petterson

There are some 1B only guys available as well , but i dont think they will go in that direction .

Chris Taylor probably needs to get in touch with a realtor.  I wouldn't hate him after he gets to FA, he's not good anymore but he's probably better than Brujan.

Did I miss the rules change where the Dodgers get a 40 man MLB roster and no luxury tax?

Yes, that's why they DFAd a 23 year old former top prospect in conjunction with this signing.

Dodgers thinking: “We don’t actually know who this guy is and we don’t actually need him, but horsefeathers another team having him and reaping any of the benefits of actually playing him if he plays well, because God knows that we don’t know where to fit him.”

We don't need to overthink this.  The Dodgers lineup is great but it's a bit of a mess defensively and so they wanted a defensive oriented bench player.  Miguel Rojas is one, but he's old and doesn't help in CF.

They are already over the CBT by 120+ million.  They owe 103 million for going over in 2024.
