Why are people down voting this?

So many reasons.

Nobody “owes” anyone an apology, and people who demand apologies are the worst.

In its heyday, the PEDs that so many people were taking weren’t against MLB rules. Sammy was caught up in using substances that weren’t terribly different than substances used for decades. Nobody bags on Hank Aaron for popping whatever he popped. Nobody demanded an apology from him to hang out in Atlanta.

Baseball is the greatest sport, but the game has never had the “integrity” that a lot of people drool over. Liars and cheaters are older than the game itself.

Personally I dont care about the Sosa situation. We all know he was using PEDs. The thing that kills me though, is that the only hard evidence against him is the drug test he failed the year before the ban. That is the exact same drug test that David Ortiz failed and David Ortiz some how wound up as a 1st ballot HoFer when the writers are supposed to be taking this firm stance on PED users. They act like Ortiz not failing a test after the ban is proof he was clean. Did Barry Bonds fail a test after the ban? Is he in the HoF? If you are voting for Ortiz, there's no reason guys like Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, etc... have to wait for the damn Veterans Committee.

Because your take on this is dumb and MLB has handled this in the worst way possible.  But mostly because you have bad opinions and Sammy was awesome.

Let's not pretend that PEDs were the only cheating Sammy did. He also had the whole corked bat thing as well.

I can understand the Ricketts, prior to the apology, not wanting the Cubs associated with cheating and a lack of remorse or regret. Good for Sammy to have finally admitted it. It's nice we can see him participating in Cubs activities. Lots of good memories.

Now Sammy was absolutely an ass in many ways, being a diva and arguably (well, maybe inarguably) disrespectful of his teammates, and I think that's what he should apologize for. Not to the fans or media, but to his teammates.

Agreed, ALOT came out toward the end of his career here and after it substantiating what you say above.   The "I no speak English" fiasco in front of Congress was particularly disappointing and embarrassing.

But a lot of Cub fans still worship the man and want to be able to honor him as their hero come home like my generation does for Billy Williams and Fergie.  So, I'm happy for their sake.  I'm personally fairly ambivalent about it.

Really? Cuz you seem pretty racist about it

It really annoys me when people criticize Sammy for his use of an interpreter at the Congressional Hearings. Sure, he spoke English fine in a clubhouse or in interviews, but this was a Congressional Hearing where misspeaking had consequences. I hope none of you ragging on Sammy get in trouble in a foreign country where English isn't the main language.

This is what I would have said if I cared to reply thoughtfully to that horsefeathers above. Perfectly said

"Your honor, my client is innocent because you're dumb and stupid and the prosecution's opinions are stinky poo-poo and my client is awesome."

Tweet should have read: “Man attends public convention and can attend games at Wrigley Field, like he was free to do for decades. Crowd rejoices!”

But what it does say is: “Ricketts family set to pamper VIP Sammy Sosa at convention and are set to give him the whole “this VIP is sitting in the owners box” treatment at Wrigley Field. Crowd rejoices!”

Well, only one of those things is explicitly given a lifetime ban from the sport.

and while they obviously cannot have players or managers betting on the games, it sure is more than a little hypocritical how in bed all the sports leagues are with gambling

Oh, without a doubt. The invasion of gambling into sports is just gross.

I respect your opinion but 4,256 hits  over 200 hits a year for 21 seasons deserves a stay at the Hall.

He can have a nice display at the museum marking his accomplishments without formal induction into the Hall

I like to think that everybody is entitled to one stupid mistake .I say put Rose in and soon.

So how do you account for the remaining 80,000 stupid mistakes Pete Rose made?

You are over exaggerating and in doing so proving my point . Rose said he "made some mistakes" but denied betting on baseball. I will repeat  4,256 hits  over 200 hits a year for 21 seasons deserves a stay at the Hall. If we only knew what most of those players did that are in the Hall you might be shocked .I wouldn't these are human beings no one is better than anyone else and we all have our faults i say get over it move on and put him in the Hall.

Nope. He blatantly broke the rules, denied it for decades, was a complete ass about it on top of that. He made a lot of bad choices

I mean gambling and sports has been around for 120 years. Instead of going down to the street corner and placing a wager with a turf accountant you just use your phone now

Also, horsefeathers Pete Rose
