Not a bad get if it's a MiLB contract. If he's requiring a 40-man spot then we truly are dumpster diving.

Seems like it’s Shaw’s job to lose.

Berti instead of Brujan as the utility guy would be great

Berti as the Matt Shaw handcuff....yeesh

Losing out on Scott should mean we can squeeze in a third bench salary, so I'm hopeful for the former.  Berti, Moncada, Canha, and Finnegan for instance likely comes in a bit under $30M still?

I dont know, if Hoyer doesn't have any real moves to make to upgrade the roster before OD besides what he has added so far, I'll be surprise if this team wins 85 games.

Bench has very little power and I'm not sure how much of an upgrade if much it is over last season bench.

Tucker and Boyd are the biggest additions.

Tucker is great but it kinda reminds me a bit of when they added Dawson in 1987 coming off a 70 win season and didn't really go get much else, and despite him having an MVP season, they only won 76 games.

Shaw - Paredes
Tucker  - Bellinger

Kelly  - Gomes
Workman - Mastrobuoni
Berti - Wisdom
Canario  - Tauchman

Boyd  - Hendricks

Hodge - Neris
Rea  - Smyly
Morgan
Theilbar

We won 83 games last year? A six game improvement would be just fine?

Sadly I doubt they add 2 more bats. Maybe one more. Also one more pen arm. They are going to come in well below that LT line this year and it sucks that this is what they are doing. I honestly expect another guy at around $3M then a pen arm at about $8M and that is it. Well below what we hoped and very disappointing.

Berti replaces Mastrobuoni's role and seems like what they always wanted Mastro to be.  Decent depth signing especially with Nico/Swanson coming off injury.

Just turned 35 but he still had 90th percentile running speed in 2024.  Has neutral splits.

After Berti the Cubs have room for 1 more bench infielder.  But I don't think Brujan has options and Workman has to stay on the 26-man.  Brujan can also play OF including CF as well so they could carry him as a super utility to cover OF if they want and still add a bench corner INF.

I assume the Cubs carry 4 bench players plus Suzuki.

If the Cubs plan on getting close to the LT line(within $7M or so) I think they might end up with Pressley as the closer. He has a no trade clause but I saw he approved the Cubs as a team he would agree to be traded to. I think that trade would be strictly a salary dump by the Astros. He is making $14M. Maybe the Cubs trade them Canario. If the Cubs take it all on they would still have around $15M-$17M to use and still be well below the LT line. They can probably add guys like Grichek and Moncada to the bench, if they wanted. The problem is, I am just not convinced any longer that they plan on getting close to that line.

For 2 million dollars, he's going on the 40, and likely the 26.

Looks like part one is being completed. Sure hope they listen to step 2 and 3.

We can process of elimination this

Not Padres - no money

Not Dodgers - plenty of money, no space

Not Giants - Doval

Diamondbacks - Sewald (?) maybe

------

Rangers (?) - probably not or he would have already waved the NTC

Not Oakland/Wherever - Mason Miller, no

Not Seattle - Munoz

LAA - no one (Esteves)

I'm guessing LAA or maybe Diamondbacks

Or, it could just be the Astros are waiting on Bregman decision, isn't that the reason they're trying to clear money?

This feels relevant given the Cubs literally added Colin Rea.  I'd imagine Taillon and Boyd grade out well by this measure as well.
