The last brothers to play together for the Cubs were Rick and Paul Reuschel, although you can't really say that Paul "starred" in any sense.

I'm going to see the Chiefs on April 30, so I hope they hold off on the Daytona promotion for a little bit.

Actually, there WAS one year there, and I'm too lazy to look it up (1977?), when Paul was actually a pretty decent middle reliever. He had a few bad outings leading to a higher ERA than was really indicative of how he pitched that year. It was his one brief moment of non-suckage.

But both the Reuschels are just the nicest and coolest guys, I've met them both, grade A dudes.

So, I'm going to be in Peoria in July for 4 days, just in time for the Chiefs to head on a road trip to Burlington. :x

Eric is not in the lineup tonight... I DEMAND A RECOUNT

Probably on a flight to St. Louis to join the big club for tommorow's game. :D

I believe Rick and Paul combined for a shutout that year (I don't remember if it was 1977 specifically, but it was around that time).

The Man is back tonight after a couple of snow-outs and a sore hamstring. In the first game of the doubleheader tonight, he went 2-2 with a single, double, 2 runs and 3 RBI. He also walked and was hit by a pitch. Batting average is now up to .489 with a shot at .500 if he can get a hit in his next ball put into play.

At what point do they send him to Daytona? I doubt he is learning much facing these low-A pitchers, and he has been sore lately, so the warm weather might do him some good. I know its early in the season, but dominance like this is probably not a fluke.

Another note on how awesome Eric Patterson is. On days that he plays, the CHICAGO CUBS are 7-6. When he doesn't play, the Cubs are 5-9. He's that good... he makes the Cubs better by playing for Peoria.

So come back soon Eric... not just for the good of the Chiefs, but for the good of the Cubs as well.

The Trib has an article on Eric and his success so far in Peoria. It compares the experiences thus far of Corey and Eric.

Imagine fan reaction to the notion that the statistics under the name Patterson this season still provide hope for an organization perpetually searching for the prototype leadoff hitter. It's true.

His name is Eric, and he was sitting in a hotel room in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as a member of the Peoria Chiefs about the time his older brother sought refuge in the Cubs dugout.

"I really choose not to comment on how Corey's doing leading off," said Eric Patterson, the 22-year-old second baseman for the Class A Chiefs who is 3½ years younger than Corey.

The brothers, from Kennesaw, Ga., have spoken to each other since Corey's well-documented move up the order and talk several times a week but "not much about baseball-related stuff." Big brother's voice over the phone line never wavers regardless of the statistical line of the day.

"Whether he goes 10-for-10 or 0-for-10, he really sounds the same," Eric Patterson said. "With Corey, you can never tell if something's bothering him. He's always been like that and I've adopted that approach. There are too many highs and lows to react to everything."

After a spurt in April, Cubs director of player development Oneri Fleita beamed to Baseball America: "Every part of his game has been great."

"He's using all fields, showing patience, bunting for hits, turning the double play well and showing great instincts on the basepaths," Fleita said.

The best thing Eric believes he has done is listen.

"I'm just taking the advice Corey gave me, to be yourself and don't try to do things you're not capable of," Patterson said. "I've been fortunate that everything is going as well as it has. I've made some adjustments and things are working."

So Corey believes he's capable of hitting high fastballs? And hitting home runs to right field with every swing? And getting on-base at a high enough rate to hit lead-off?

Is Corey supposed to believe he sucks? Think Corey could do all that stuff before in the minors and high school? One of the reasons that pro athletes are so good is because they believe they are great. But, that said, it should be becoming clear to him that he can't and maybe that is why he wants to lead off again.

If you read the entire article, one of the things mentioned is that when Corey was Eric's age, he was playing at the major league level.

Cool, I'm like that. :)

Of course when the player is struggling, it becomes "Player A doesn't care."

Thanks for posting that, Serena!

Wow. Just wow. That must be the greatest stat I've ever seen in my life.

Patterson's updated line: .337/.414/.518/.932

He doesn't have anything left to prove in the MWL at this point... I'd like to see him in Daytona yesterday, and then at WTenn to start next season.

Bump for good luck in Oneri Fleita finally realizing Eric isn't learning much at Low A ball except that he's way too good for that league.

2nd in SLG is really surprising. I too dont see the point of keeping him peoria any longer. Once this 3 game series is done and he works with his future double play partner its time to move south.

BTW who is this hottest woman on the planet? Is she even a women yet, she looks younger than 18. Also this chic needs to lay of the lip gloss, shes got it all over her face.

Truffle is going to kill you now.

Since I knew nothing (still don't know very much) about Cubs' prospects prior to this year, does E. Patterson have a higher ceiling than it looked like Corey had at that level?

No, Corey definitely had a much higher ceiling at low A than Eric.

And no comment on the whole Josie Maran thing.

Eric does not have the power potential that Corey does (although he has shown good slugging this season) and also is a far inferior defender at a less important position.

edit: I should clarify, I am a huge EPatt fan because his stike zone judgement suggests to me that he has a good chance of sticking in the majors as a productive player. Just commenting on his cieling objectively.
