Hey, it might not last that long, so put Illinois up there with the ranked teams. Not sure if you use coaches poll or AP right now, but they're ranked in both

Not sure what happened there, brain fart

Totally fair, you've been doing it for years and this is like the 2nd/3rd year they've actually had a ranking at any point

Secret wish for this college football season: that this year's Army-Navy game ends up being for the Group of 5 playoff spot. Getting closer to reality every week.

EDIT: Biggest caveat for this possibility is both teams play Notre Dame, but sorry Irish, rooting for Army-Navy this year.

The actual Army/Navy game can't affect anything because it will be played after the CFP is set, but the two would meet in the AAC championship if what you are hoping for comes to pass, with the winner likely getting that spot.

This creates the deeply funny possibility of the teams playing in back to back weeks with only the first game having any actual stakes - and the deeply fun possibility of that first game being played on one of the academy campuses, as AAC title games always take place at campus sites.

Also weirdly enough, because both teams are in the AAC now, they could play in the conference championship game on Dec 6, then the selection show would be Dec 8 and the two teams are scheduled to play their annual game on Dec 14.

Given the tradition of the Army/Navy game, is there some sort of agreement that they will never play a true conference, before the conference title game, game? Or is part of the conference movement that this last week of the year game become essentially an exhibition?

It's traditionally the last game of the season. I've been to a few of them; they are so much fun.

Right, but obviously that game, in its traditional slot, can never have an impact on the conference championship game. Is the plan for Army/Navy to eventually play each other in advance of the conference title game, whether or not the Week 15 traditional game stays on the schedule?

The plan as I understand it is for the two teams never to meet in the regular season. The traditional game will be played when it currently is and not count in the league standings.

I'll take the Illini winning a game they probably should have lost, just decided to quit playing after getting up 27-3.  Purdue deserves some credit, it was more the Illini taking the rest of the game off than it was anything Boilers did.

Wtf happened to the defense? DBs were getting juked out of their shoes left and right.

One under discussed thing with the mega conferences and the playoff is that parsing the schedules teams are playing will probably require more nuance than most CFB fans are capable of.

As a for instance (I'm not picking on anyone, I just happened to look it up), if Illinois drops out of the poll for nearly losing to awful Purdue, Penn State will have one currently ranked team on its 2024 schedule (Ohio State). Depending on how Vanderbilt (who knew?) and Oklahoma are evaluated in today's poll, the same may be true of Missouri as well (Texas A&M).

It's not going to be as simple as "this team is in a power 2 conference so their schedule is automatically a death march."

Good point. The mega conferences now have completely unbalanced schedules (before you even look at non-conference). Ohio State has to play Michigan and Oregon, while Penn State doesn't (for example).

That was the dumbest game I have ever been to

I didn't get it either, Purdue QB is awful, nearly threw two interceptions in the second half, they were getting wide open on simple backyard football stuff.  Even a terrible QB will connect when the receiver has no one within 20 yards of him.
I'll add that Purdue got away with some blatant holding, on their big QB scramble Purdue lineman had Illini d-lineman hooked around the throat, thought certain it was going to get called.  Nevertheless, the game being close was completely the fault of the Illini.
