The Chicago Blackhawks today announced that the team has assigned forward Frank Nazar, along with defensemen Louis Crevier and Kevin Korchinski to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League. The team has also assigned forward AJ Spellacy to the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.

The regular season is 6 days away and some of the biggest roster questions have been answered, with Nazar heading down to AHL with Korchinski and Spellacy returning to junior. Reichel is still around but appears to be a man without a spot, who may be moved in a change of scenery situation.

the athletic’s projection sees a real step forward but remaining a really bad team.
*Do not expect there to be a postseason thread

The problem with scorched earth rebuilds is that it takes time for that earth to become fertile ground again. Even massive steps can still have a franchise far away from competitiveness.

That’s exactly where Chicago lands with an expected 25-point improvement … that still has the Blackhawks almost 20 points out of a playoff spot in the West. All that money spent in free agency isn’t enough to completely turn this team around, leaving it very likely that the Blackhawks will once again be a bottom-five outfit. They landed there in 54 percent of simulations.

I am honestly happy to see them taking their time with Nazar and also giving more time to Korchinski to develop. He showed promise last year but was too often times overmatched. He got thrown into the fire last year out of circumstance and at no fault of his own. We will see both of them in Chicago this season at some point.

Reichel has to be on his final opportunity here. Still only 22, but he's got to show something. I want to believe in him but I'm losing my faith.

We get hockey tomorrow!

Can’t wait to play Hockey Club!  And it’s actually on tv since it’s an ESPN game. Seems like 85-90% of the Chicago market still does not have the new CHSN channel unless they invested in an HD antenna

Utah gets a basketball team: "Sure, we'll keep being the Jazz, despite that being as far from a Utah thing as humanly possible"

Utah gets a hockey team: "No, we can't be the Coyotes, that doesn't represent Utah."

They couldn't have put Utah? lol

Sports broadcasting is getting messy. I just want one place where I can watch all of my teams without blackouts. I am willing to pay for it!

They are taking a page out of the pwhl playbooks and not rushing into a new branding campaign in only a couple months since the sale/move took place. They will play a season as UHC and then launch their new logo and name next offseason.

Yea I got that part, but why is the official entry on Wikipedia designed on a 240p pixel resolution.

Do people refer to things on Wikipedia as official?

Regardless of whether people invest in an antenna, there will still be millions who got NBC Sports Chicago that won't get the game because they are outside the viewing area of OTA, and within the blackout restricted area. I've seen that they have the OTA option, DirecTV (which I just left), maybe Dish if DirecTV converts them to DirecTV programming, and ATT U-verse.

I'm not an expert at this stuff, but I would have to imagine Season Ticket holders will be taking it on the chin for re-sale on their tickets. Us out of towners who like to buy tickets above market value to make it a weekend getaway to Chicago or just plain getaway that will no longer be able to watch games and stay in touch with the Hawks/Bulls will dwindle. Being able to watch them at home keeps us interested, even if the team sucks. Not being able to see them at all makes us think about other things to do with our entertainment dollar. Maybe the Season Ticket holders just sell more tickets to offset the losses, but it's pretty crazy that they didn't even entertain being ready for this coming season with some sort of streaming app.

I'd pay right now for NBA and NHL Season Pass if I wasn't in the blackout area. I'd pay right now for CHSN streaming app. Instead, I have to hope that the Hawks will be on ESPN+ often. As far as the Bulls go, I'm poop outta luck. For this year, it won't matter because they are really gonna suck. But, it's 2024, what are we doing here?

Yeah I guess I am going to fork money over for an antenna. Youtube TV doesn't sound like they are going to add it. Sucks for you people that are >50 miles away.

Between ESPN, ESPN+, and the Turner channels, not to mention all the NY stations when they played devils, rangers and islanders, the hawks were on TV for me a ton last year.

Good to know. Question..... Does ESPN+ let you start a game at the beginning that's in progress? I've got a damn HOA meeting to attend tonight at 7pm, which is game time. Would like to watch it from the beginning after my meeting.

I've been reading that a lot of people aren't getting the signal, even after reprogramming/scanning their tv's for the new channels. I've read some get sound, but no video. I've read others saying that the games are very pixelated, grainy and freezes.

I'm not trying to discourage you from getting an antenna, but you might want to spend a bit more for one of the better ones. Do your research.

I'm not sure about the streaming networks like YouTube TV but I'm 99% sure Xfinity will have the channel at the very latest by the start of the Bulls regular season, but most likely sooner.  This is the same crap as Marquee where they didn't agree with Comcast until the night before the season opener (during the COVID year).  It would be an absolute disaster for the Bulls and Blackhawks to go very long without fans having access to games (its neat that they are broadcasting OTA but most people arent going to buy an antenna solely for this...maybe if the teams were any good but they're not)

It is working ok for me.  From what I read, you need a relatively recent tuner though, and that is where the "sound but no video" issues occur when the TV tuner isn't new enough to support the format they are broadcasting.  If you are connecting the antenna directly to a TV and that TV is several years old, you may have issues.  I personally have a HDHomerun tuner and that is working.

Passing has been atrocious, especially on the power play.

...of course now they score. Good play by Bedard to create the chance.
