Why oh why would you not walk Overbay?

Brenly commented that he didn't understand why you walk him earlier in the game, but you don't later. I guess Damien made too big an impression.

Overbay only has one full season in the majors, while Damien is a veteran player.

Do I want to face Lenny Harris or Mike Lowell? Hmm....

Sigh.

Somebody please PLEASE tell me that Dusty already used Dubois and that's why Macias was put in when Holla got tossed. Please?

We live in Bizzaro world.

Negative. :x

If Hendry wants any chance to salvage this year, he needs to fire Baker NOW. Not later, not at the all star break, not when the team is 20 games back... NOW.

It's not just that he doesn't position the team to win... he actively puts the team in a position to lose...

is there even any point any more?

Not really. Hawkins closing the game, Macias the first pinch hitter off the bench, not using Dubois in place of one of his precious vets (Perez in the 9th inning)... it's just rehashing the same beefs. He sucks, I don't think there's much more he can do to show that.

Two runners on for the Cubs in the 9th against Wagner and the Phillies. A homerun would tie the game. Who does Dusty bring up for the RBI opportunity? Jerry "freakin" Hairston. Last I checked he wasn't much of an RBI man. Hairston grounds into a double play to pretty much dash the Cubs hope once again. Then Dusty let's the RBI man in Dubois hit. Dusty needs to be fired immediately.

Yeah...let's have the guy with 1 rbi batting in that situation.

Jose Macias: 31 plate appearances

Jason Dubois: 32 plate appearances

Todd Hollandsworth: starting in left field, because of his defense.

So who will end up with more plate appearances in 2005, Jason Dubois or Jose Macias? We could start a betting pool and put in a Vegas style handicap. With no handicap I would bet on Jason, but spot Macias 20 PA's and I'd bet on the Gremlin.

I posted this in the Game Thread, but figured it might be a nice addition to the thread:

You know, when Dusty finally leaves, I have to wonder the following: who did he screw up the most?

1 - Corey Patterson? From batting him everywhere in the order to calling him out in the media to yelling at him after a game winning HR to who knows what else, I have to wonder what Corey's mental makeup looks like right now...

2 - LaTroy Hawkins? Hey, the dude is due. Let's trot him out to blow YET ANOTHER one run lead!

3 - Mark Prior? He might be the world's oldest 24 year old, but he's still young. Let's ride him like a rented mule and see when his arm falls off!

4 - Chad Fox? This one...was just utterly indefensible.

5 - Kerry Wood? From overuse to a complete lack of coaching (how long did it take them to sit down and watch a tape of his mechanics?), I'm befuddled.

6- Jason Dubois? Time will tell with this one, but him being Hollandsworth's bench jockey is pathetic.

7 - Hee Seop Choi? I know plenty of you are still bitter about this one.

8 - Bobby Hill? Ditto, but to a lesser extent.

9 - Carlos Zambrano? Like Dubois, time will tell with this one. Also, like Prior, Dusty seems hell bent on using his arm until it falls off.

10 - Mike Remlinger? His reverse splits just keep becoming more and more pronounced.

I'm sure everyone can find other guys if they want to, but ten is a nice number for lists. :D

How could you leave the immortal Lenny Harris off the list?

It's a total mess.

The Cubs do not show any evidence of effective coaching. The don't move runners up, can't get bunts down, hit sac flies, etc.

They only rarely show insight as to how to work the count (especially in critical situations), and are mediocre baserunners. There is also poor defensive decision making, i.e. Hawkins yesterday, and Hairston trying to catch the ball off to his side and at waist level the other day. Pitch selection for both the hitters and pitchers has been very questionable. There has been an overall lack of hustle as well.

All of these things can be attributed to bad coaching or a total lack of it.

And then you have the managerial decisons, mostly poor, which have been documented in this thread. Also the abuse of players (Fox), medical misdiagnoses, failure to address mechanical issues, and on and on and on.

The whole coaching staff has to go, IMO.

Dusty blames Corey for the loss.

How did he manage to blame the one effective offensive player for the loss?!?!

Not catching the line drive was apparently what caused the Cubs to lose.

I believe the ax is going to fall soon, Baker got the vote of confidence the other day in the context of the 2003 Marlins and 2004 Astros, he's not long for the Cubs.
