Walker went 0-4 again with Iowa today.....now 0-19 in his rehab assignment

How dare you forget the his 4-pitch walk in his 5th AB!?

At least he had one hard hit ball that could easily have gone for a single if it was hit a foot or two to the left or right. Still, he only saw 7 pitches in his first 4 ABs and he was retired on the first pitch in two of them.

OK OK my bad. So his OBP is pretty low, yet he is still being as productive (2 RBIs each) in 20 PAs then Hairston has been in his 5 weeks as a starter. Of course thats not fair to Jerry, but lets bring TWalk up anyways

Holy cow. Now the Cubs are saying that Zambrano's injury was not related to swinging the bat or anything baseball-related. It was his computer! Apparently, he's developed a bit of carpal tunnels syndrome from being on his computer so much this winter. It's NOT tennis elbow.

And I thought I'd heard everything...

What's next, the Cubs are gonna say it's from masturbating too much???

Good news for Kerry, he played catch for five minutes. It looks like it will take some time for him to get ready though, because he has to build up his arm strength.

Carrie Muskat"]Kerry Wood was able to play catch for five minutes Saturday, the first time the Chicago Cubs pitcher has thrown a ball since his last start April 30.

Cubs athletic trainer Mark O'Neal said Saturday the MRI scan on Wood's right shoulder showed significant improvement.

"The inflammation that he had in the muscle and the back of his shoulder has resolved," O'Neal said. "There's minimal to no inflammation in there. We're taking that as a very positive sign and moving forward with starting a 'return to throwing' program."

Wood's progress will be monitored daily, O'Neal said.

"It's almost like we have to go through Spring Training," O'Neal said. "We have to get some arm strength built up before we can do anything. He hasn't picked up a ball in three weeks and the last time he threw it wasn't a productive throw. It's almost like we're starting from ground zero."

Wood made five starts before he had to be shut down, and was 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA, giving up 18 earned runs over 26 1/3 innings. The right-hander had shoulder problems in Spring Training, but was able to start the season.

There's also a mention on Todd Walker's rehab:

"My knee's fine," Walker said. "Now it's all about getting back into shape.

"You never know when you're going to start feeling like yourself again," Walker said. "All of a sudden -- it just happens."

And Barrett:

Michael Barrett was available only to pinch-hit on Saturday, sidelined again by a sore right shoulder.

Walker finally breaks through tonight. He collected a bloop single in his first AB, crushed one that hit off the top of the wall for a double, and then smacks an RBI double to the track. He wasn't able to drive in a run with runners at 2nd and 3rd with one away, but he's 3-5 tonight.

My guess is that he'll stay at Iowa for tomorrow's game. He'd probably be too tired to play the day game tomorrow for the Cubs. Unless they want to just give him the day off. Hopefully he'll be in the starting lineup Monday night against the Astros.

By the way, his defense sounds fine. He made a few nice plays tonight and has been solid during the entire stint.

yeah, i didn't expect him back for tomorrow's game. it would be great to have him back for the astros series, though. hopefully it spells the end of enrique wilson's stint as a cub.

Sounds like the Cubs need to start inserting a clause in player contracts limiting their off-season computer time. :D

Z's almost as bad as me:

Cubs.com"]Zambrano admitted he spends four to five hours a day on the computer sending messages to his brother and others in Venezuela.

"I've been on the computer a lot," Zambrano said Sunday. "They say that's the cause of the soreness in my elbow."

Not exactly.

"It's not carpal tunnel [syndrome]," Cubs athletic trainer Mark O'Neal said. "To sit there and say it's a computer issue, that's not 100 percent true. It's tennis elbow. It could be from batting. There's no telling where it came from."

If Zambrano is supposed to cut back on BP, he isn't listening to the doctor's advice. He was taking his hacks on Sunday. He does plan to cut back on the computer time.

"I'll be in control," Zambrano said. "I spent four hours. Now, I'll have to spend one hour and take it easy."

"The thing I've seen about people on the computer and the Internet is that it's addicting," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said. "We told him not to get on it, and you turn around and he's on the computer."

Baker's wife, Melissa, took charge. A former accountant for the Gap, she had a similar problem with her forearm and elbow.

"My wife took it upon herself, being the team player that she is, she went and bought -- on my credit card -- a whole bunch of ergonomics stuff," Baker said. "She got wrist guards, elbow guards, a wireless mouse, different pads."

Baker had carpal tunnel syndrome himself, brought on by too much writing. The Cubs think Zambrano's cramps last season and early this year may have been caused by this and not dehydration, which the team originally thought was the problem.

"We're searching for clues," Baker said. "We were alarmed when the doctor said it was a non-throwing injury."

I just read in game threads that Mark Prior is out for the year after throwing 126 pitches in today's game. Who should we call up?

Darren Oliver.

He retired. :(

OK, Dave Crouthers then.

Borowski's back on the active roster, Fontenot was sent down. Who goes down when Walker returns? Wellemeyer?

Walker went 3-5 tonight with an infield single and a double off of a diving SS's glove that bounced towards the line in shallow left. He also had a sharp single to right on a 3-1 pitch. He worked the count a little better. My guess is that he'll fly to Chicago after the day game in Iowa tomorrow but won't be activated until Wednesday.
