I dont know exactly what people expect to get out of players like Taillon or Happ. Taillon has 2.5 years left under contract and while he's making a reasonable $17M AAV, he hasnt even lived up to that AAV in his first 1.5 years of the deal. Happ has the same 2.5 years left and outperforms his AAV by a little, but not a whole lot. Then you have to find a team he would wave the NTC for and find something that team has that you like that's willing to give up on a 3 fWAR player on a reasonable deal and its most likely going to be a player thats years away because a Happ isn't the type of player thats going to attract near MLB ready prospects, at least not ones that you would hope match his production.

 

It's Bellinger and Hoerner, imo. Hoerner is legitimately the only player this team could move and make any kind of organizational shift. If you eat all of Bellinger's remaining 2024 salary and talking to the Yankees, since they seem interested and need 1B/CF, you are probably only looking at something like Clayton Beeter + Agustin Ramirez. The rest are just marginal moves from our "depth" of pitching.

Why trade the dude who has been productive his entire career to clear a spot for Shaw when you can just trade the atrocious fielder who is ‘just about to put it all together’ but has been worth like 2 wins in a season and a half.

The only reason people mention Hoerner is because he has the most trade value.  It's a shame we can't trade Swanson because of his terrible contract.  Trade PCA and Morel this offseason before they lose their trade value.

Hoerner is 27, so how is that aging?  I suggested trading PCA and Morel before the season and posters went bonkers.  I'm all for trading them now, but Hoyer and Rickets have given up on this season and are planning another cheap rebuild for next year.  Putting PCA and/or Morel out there gives you a shot at almost any young controllable player.  Another season of watching them struggle below the Mendosa line makes them worthless as trade bait.  It's a shame that Swanson has negative trade value because he's the one we should trade.

I hope we do go on a win streak, but I'm not sure much is going to change with Rickets reluctant to spend and Hoyer reluctant to trade prospects in order to make this a solid team that could go deep in the playoffs.

Morel has little to no trade value at the moment. Would like to see him being flip for a young controllable relief arm, but not sure who is all out there. I do know that a young closer is what Craig will demand at seasons end.

Didn't realized that Morel weighed only 145 pounds until now. That's what the Cubs listed him on the website.
