Damn so Wesneski stays in the rotation?

Also this kind of feels like a phantom injury to give Assad a breather, could be wrong.

This exactly.  Even though we know this team is dogshit there are enough injuries to use it as an excuse

Assad's velo has been down lately I kind of wondered if this was coming.  Brown didn't sound too far out so hopefully he can get back before the next guy drops.

This makes 6 starters having spent time on the DL this year, right?

  • Steele
  • Hendricks
  • Taillon
  • Assad
  • Wicks
  • Brown

I think Imanaga and Wesneski are the only ones that have started a game this year that haven't gone on the DL at some point. More than two syllable last names are the new market inefficiency. (I'm not counting Little being used as an opener)

You are probably wrong. I think people were saying Alzolay to the IL was a phantom injury too. And they were also wrong.

That was me as well, but i think its more likely in this case given he’s approaching his previous innings high and has been struggling with some ineffectiveness. And that he was IL’ed as soon as they managed to grab some insurance in the absolute legend that is Vinny Nittoli

I got curious how much of this is aberrant v. the new normal.  Here's the NL team IL stints and IL days for pitchers, excluding 2023 injuries that would've been known in building a roster.

Team Pitcher IL stints Total P IL Days
Dodgers 12 634
Cubs 16 544
Marlins 13 539
Brewers 10 531
Reds 12 464
DBacks 9 452
Cardinals 7 428
Phillies 7 390
Mets 10 380
Pirates 9 355
Giants 9 332
Nationals 5 306
Padres 6 293
Braves 9 267
Rockies 5 218

Average 9.3 408.9

Assad is over 60 innings from his previous high.  At current rates he wouldn't reach it until late August and would only exceed it by 25-30 innings by EOY.

Cubs missing all of 13 days more than the Brewers doesn't exactly make me feel comforted

Dodgers leading the world in pitcher IL time and Glasnow not contributing at all is very funny.  But then again as I said over and over again this winter his injury history was always wildly exaggerated.

Nevermind, I read the post again and assume Brandon Woodruff counts as one of those 2023 injuries.

I cant read!

To contextualize it a little, Brandon Woodruff is eating up a lot of those days, as he was placed on the IL on February 24th and was always expected to miss the entire year. That's 130 of those days. That's not to say losing Brandon Woodruff is nothing, but the Brewers never expected to have him this year, either. If we ignored Woodruff's time on the IL, the Brewers would be down to 9 and in the middle of the pack.

Conversely, the Cubs have had Killian on the IL for much of the season and he's not much of a loss (IMO), so it kind of balances out in days. In terms of numbers, the Cubs are still sitting at a whopping 15, which, I actually think is the bigger deal.

It does not include Woodruff since his injury was in 2023.  Kilian is a part of the Cubs total.

Assad is number 16 for the eagle eyed counters.

But to approach 1908's point from another angle, the Brewers had 4 IL stints dating back to Spring Training, and 6 since the season started(one of each was Miley).  The Cubs had 3 IL stints dating back to Spring Training, and 13 since the season started.

Haha forgive me, I had edited my post before you had posted this because I realized I didn't read correctly. I had caught my mistake but seems like it wasn't fast enough for you not to have to do extra legwork! Whoops!
