Ben Brown's realistic cap for innings this year is 130-140?  He's already at 55 about 40% of the way through the season.  Not that I'd ever accuse the team of faking injuries, but this might just make it so they don't have to yoyo him between starting and relieving the rest of the year to manage innings.

But they can just option him. Why fake an injury?

Well that's a fair point!  I'm going to blame the afternoon I've had at work for making me conspiratorial.

Also I think I'm the one guy on this board who likes Brewer so yay I guess.

What the hell is a stress reaction

It's a less severe stress fracture. I've literally never heard of someone having one of those outside of their legs, but this is the 2024 Cubs.

Hmm

I might be dumb, im a little confused by the tweet, does this mean he had a tumor like mass in his neck that was causing the pain?

Levine's tweet phrasing always leaves a little to be desired, and it's not an entirely clear situation.

My interpretation was that 1) Brown had a stress reaction in his neck 2) the spot on his neck with the reaction is not in a particularly problematic area(either for recurrence or impacting pitching), so now that the discomfort is dissipating he can start building up again.  Counsell said when he first went on the IL that there's not much history of this type of injury in this location, so I imagine everyone's doing the best they can to frame it in a way that makes sense given how little is certain.

Ah gotcha thanks for that
