It's not just the losing but how it's happening.

If the Cubs lost today 2-1 but Brown went 7 IP and 1 ER, it would still feel like a win in some ways

I guess it's just one of those seasons so far.  Hope they can get it together

There is one out in the bottom of the 2nd

Brown threw more pitches than he was stretched out to do last time (I think). Possibly just doesn’t have it today but looking as good as he did last time it’s jarring to see him struggle a few days later.

I would guess this will be the standard lineup vs. lefties.  The fact that it was Bote specifically up for Madrigal makes me think there's some level of getting Morel off the field over to DH motivating this as well.

Is Morel still having trouble with his finger? I really do think the whole team is playing banged up right now and they just need to find ways to rest these guys. Bote is healthy and has enough skills to have had success in the past.

Putting Morel at DH for a while and getting some guys actual rest could lead them back to healthy.

He's clearly not as sharp as his last outing, but I think some bad fortune is exaggerating the magnitude.  He's sawed off a different hitter in each inning that's managed to go for a hit(one of those for a double), without the 2 in the 2nd or 3rd would mean he's sitting on 0 runs.

A lot of the contact has been weak, that HBP he had was also kinda cheap because he stuck his knee out.

He made one mistake.  He's incredibly good,  just has to learn to bury that pitch 0-2.

I agree. This would've been a good spot at 0-2 to back  Friedel off the plate. Kid is still learning the ropes. He needs a little bulldog mentality.

I would like to apologize for my previous past blasting Rob Manfred for blacking out Reds games in my area.

I think he was actually on to something...

xBA of .520 to get us right back into the game, with more runners on base, turns into a DP

Morel crushes one into a double play and then the reds get a dribbler between the pitcher and first baseman for a base bit. Man I hate this game.

Not a clutch day for Morel

As usual, he smoked a ball and made an out, actually 2, on a .520 xBA line drive.

This horsefeathers game.  Morel squared up the ball last inning, with risp and was rewarded with a DP, Wisdom and Happ rolled over this inning and both snuck through.

Both Wisdom and Happ had 100 mph exit velos(well, Happ was 99.8) so while you would guess Morel's ball would be more successful they weren't exactly seeing eye singles either

I suppose the sequencing was the most frustrating part.  The slight difference in contact quality just added a bit of salt.

I don't have data to back this up, but it feels to me like more pitches in the zone have been called balls this year so far than in years past.

The older umps with huge zones seem to be adjusting to avoid the robot takeover and may be overcompensating
