Kyle bounced back and the offense did just enough to win the series against the Pirates.

Now they face... Atlanta.

At least they have Shota on the mound. Let's see if the offense can wake up and take another series.

Lopez is going for the Braves right?  That's the probable I saw yesterday at least.  If so, he's have a spectacular year so far in his first 6 starts

CWS - 6 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 1 ER

NYM - 6 IP, 3 H, 3 BB, 0 ER

HOU - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 0 ER

MIA - 7 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 1 ER

SEA - 5 IP, 6 H, 2 BB, 3 ER

BOS - 5.1 IP, 6 H, 4 BB, 1 ER

Overall - 35.1 IP, 1.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP

Very odd as he hasn't started regularly since 2020 and made 68 relief appearances last year but the Braves have some sort of devil magic going on lately so whatever.

I know the Braves are much more potent than the Cubs (at least of late), but the starting pitching favors the Cubs in each game, IMO.

I feel the starters need to be almost perfect in this series, can’t have the bullpen facing the Braves bats for 5+ innings.

Come away with 1 win and I’ll be happy leading into 4 against the Pirates.

Acuna and Olson are going to get white hot at some point and make some poor pitching staff wish they'd never been born.  Just gotta hope that's at least 10 days out.

Good chance Riley sits today after being pulled early in yesterdays game with side tightness. Might get lucky and have him out a few games.

Not so fun fact:

Ozzie Albies in his career is a .272/.325/.476 hitter.  That's good, that's a 110 wRC+

Ozzie Albies against thr Cubs in his career is a .406/461/.734 hitter.  That's incredible, it's a 213 wRC+.  That's 2003 Barry Bonds

was in atlanta over the weekend visiting my family. the girlfriend and i went to a movie on sunday and the theatre was next to truist park. not that far of a drive from downtown atlanta.

aside: my dad is 86 and has early signs of dementia. he repeats himself quite a bit but if you poke and prod him, he'll remember things. asked him to give me the starting lineup for the 1952 cubs and he listed every single player including their #1 starter. made him watch saturday's game up to the rain delay. he hadn't watched a baseball game on the tv in years due to health issues and could follow along everything to a T. wild how the mind forgets things with that disease but you're able to remember other events without issue.

Seems like everyone but d'Arnaud and Ozuna are struggling in that Braves lineup. So I’m guessing they’ll all be breaking out against the cubs bullpen this week

Who does Wisdom have to kill to get more AB’s over M-Boner?

I would slide Busch over to 2B and go from there but seems like they want to keep him exclusively at first.

Patrick Wisdom has very starkly defined strengths and weaknesses and Reynaldo Lopez is very much a pitcher Wisdom tends to struggle against.

Mastrobuoni’s starkly defined weakness is major league pitching of any kind.

These are some of the worst offenses in mlb. But still.

Wouldn’t it be easier to put Morel at 2nd and Wisdom at 3rd? That said. I am fine with Mastrobuoni at second and Wisdom on the bench tonight.

Could be better, 2B I believe is both of their natural positions. but either way don’t see the Cubs taking Morel off third or Busch off first.

I think Craig is just listening to the experts.

“Already tired of Wisdom”

“Wisdom shouldn’t face any righties or be playing in the field. Hopefully Counsell learned something today”

“Wisdom is useless against RHP”

When the choice is between Mastrobuoni or Wisdom, I think the choice is clear.

Besides sometimes the experts aren’t always right, like the ones that were saying nothing was wrong with the bullpen early in the season.

I believe TT was being very tongue in cheek with "experts." Probably quoting you
