Sure the Cubs' bats have been pretty silent of late.  But earlier today they brought some lumber to the park - 3 dongs and 6 runs.  Woot Woot!!!! Maybe that carries over to this game.  They face a pretty good pitcher.  But "the Vaunteds" have to face this guy:

 

 

This guy is JAP - just another pitchers so say the critics.  But he's been hurling ever since the Cubs have given him the ball to start.  "Send to the 'pen" once Steele, Wicks, and Hendricks get back? Rubbish!! The man with the "Tijuana Two-Seamer" has proven he belongs in the rotation and should be taking the ball every fifth day!

 

Let's go out and win the series and grab 1st place while we're at it!

What are the current SP and bullpen ERA's as a group? Seems like the starters have been incredible (minus Hendricks and a Ben Brown start) and the bullpen, well................

Assuming Wesneski is getting the Wednesday start, I wonder if Brown is available out of the bullpen today or if they're saving him for tomorrow knowing that Steele's on a pitch count.

Cubs starters have given up 68 runs in 169.2 innings. 24 of those belong to Hendricks. 

Cubs bullpen has given up 82 runs in 133 innings. This doesn't factor in how many of the starters runs the bullpen allowed to score.

Nightmare 5 days upcoming for an offense who has been struggling recently (though maybe showing signs of breaking out again)

1. Freddie Peralta 

2. Yu Darvish

3. Joe Musgrove

4. Dylan Cease

5. Jared Jones

Jones is a top 75 prospect who has 1.4 bWAR, 2.63 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and the best K/9 and SO/BB in baseball in 7 starts this year

Musgrove has been awful this year but had 6 IP, 2 ER in his last start so might be getting back on track.

Good news is they're seeing all of San Diego's starters for the second time in less than a month.  Steele vs Darvish, Imanaga vs Musgrove and Wesneski? Vs. Cease.  Could go either way but a sweep seems unlikely.

Agreed. Would of rather seen them make Peralta work a little more after the walk to Wisdom instead of giving him a free 1 pitch out.

Seems likely that it was his call, but PCA has a .233 OBP across AAA and MLB this year, against Peralta it's probably as good a bet as any.
