To the untrained eye, and inaccurate MLB scoring, Little was given 2 wild pitches.  In reality, neither of them was a wild pitch.  One went through Amaya's legs, and anytime a ball goes through na catchers legs, it's an error on the catcher.  If a MLB can't block a pitch between this legs, he needs to go back to TBall.  The other one was just outside his foot, and I stead of moving his body in front of I, he lazily swiped at it with only his glove.  I know Little and everyone non the Cubs pitching staff would agree, as would 50-75% of the team.  And of Amaya doesn't agree, he will suck on defense the rest of his career. His errors were the turning point of the game.  I know there's plenty of blame to go around,  mainly the weak pitchers that Hoyer has assembled, but bush league defense will lose you games Everytime.

Welcome to the boards!

While I agree, Amaya probably shoulders blame (as do a handful of others) in the game last night, you should never expect to win a game when you've given up seven runs by the fourth inning. The only reason Amaya was in a position to let a wild pitch/passed ball debate to even begin with is because the offense stormed back. And it was Amaya with not one, but two extra base hits that helped you get into that position to begin with.

Could Amaya have done more on those? Probably, and they ended up being costly. Little also shoulders blame for throwing some really iffy pitches there. But saying he cost the win...I think that's losing the forest for the trees, as well. Amaya wasn't the reason they lost.

  • Swanson being unable to close his glove tightened the margin to just a solo HR
  • Hendricks was batting practice
  • Smyly wilted
  • pitching issued 10 BBs
  • etc.

lot of things went poorly to lose that one that it's unfair scapegoating to focus your frustrations on one player

How about Little not being able to throw a strike?  I'll agree the second one was a lazy effort and said so at the time and there's no excuse for the pitch he just didn't catch later either.  Rough night for him defensively, but as has been said, he's far from the only one with some culpability for that loss last night.

I was thinking the same thing. Amaya should’ve definitely caught those 2 past balls. What I didn’t like in the Marte game tying homer was that Alzolay through his first pitch slider right down the middle of the plate and the second slider didn’t run in on Marte but instead was down the middle of the plate too. Marte was all over it.

Swanson cost the Cubs IMO.  In the same inning, a guy on 3rd and 1 out and he can't put the ball in play to get that run home.  And then that liner that he didn't catch.  There is plenty of blame to go around but Swanson is the highest paid player on this team, I believe a team captain as well

Swanson looks hungover. Every time they show his face he looks exhausted lol

It looked like Amaya just wasn't picking up Little's pitches out of his hand. He was not comfortable back there.

Adbert needs to regain his form. 3 HR already.  Killers.

While it is silly to blame one person or one play as the reason a team lost, if I was going to blame someone I would also blame Swanson. If he catches the line drive that he should have caught they probably do not score that inning. The entire inning is different so we can’t assume 2 walks and then 2 outs happen as they did. But good chance they don’t score. In addition to that, with Nico on third and one out he has to make contact. They have to get that insurance run in. He has not been good. It was certainly a team loss, since others could have done better as well, but if I am picking one guy it is Swanson.
