Speaking of edge rushers Jonathan Greenard is going to the Vikings.  Interested to see the contract as he seemed to benefit from a great contract year but was kind of meh before that

Cousins is going to the falcons because Fields never had much trade value.

The remaining teams that need starting QBs that aren't drafting top 3 are Denver, Minnesota, Las Vegas.

Sean Payton just cut Russell Wilson because he couldn't throw quick hits over the middle of the field

So unless Minnesota likes what they've seen from fields or Getsy really wants a return, fields will be a backup in 2024

This hurts the Bears bad. Cousins to Falcons hurts Fields's value and now that's one less team potentially taking a QB in front of the Bears.

It weakens a divisional opponent in the short term, but also bails them out of bad contract for an aging qb.

A 4th might be optimistic for Fields right now. There's a significant chance he's your 2024 backup.

Probably a 5th now lol. I just don't see how you can keep Fields on the roster though.

I don't see any way you can have Fields and his replacement in the same locker room.

"bears would be sticking with fields if we didn't have the no. 1 pick. Fields is an ok starter, this is just too good an opportunity" was always more about trying to create an olive branch than actual truth

I don't care what the Bears get for him (obviously would like the best possible deal though), you can't have Caleb and Fields both on the roster next year.  Fields' value will likely never again be this high, but in reality the biggest issue is the locker room and the massive headaches I will have when the Caleb/Fields discussions are had on twitter and sports radio for an entire season.  I'd be willing to go as far as cut him if no one makes an offer of any sort, but I don't think it will get to that.

This one hurts, I believe the Bears were heavily linked to Hunter.  Maybe premature to say this but seems like we might be done playing at the top of the market after Swift?

Haven't seen this confirmed elsewhere

For the life of me I will never understand the “can’t have Fields in the clubhouse” argument. He’s under contract for one year. Hes a good guy/teammate He’s proven over and over he’s not THE guy. But he’s capable of winning a game or two. If Williams is any good he’ll win the job in the summer and it’ll be obvious he should be the starter. If Williams gets injured then fields starts. If Fields goes on a tear, great! If he fuddles along like he’s done so far in his caeeer, so be it.

there is not going to be a clubhouse split about who should start. If Williams starts and is bad enough that people will be clamoring for Fields, that situation is not any better with Fields in another uniform.

ideally, somebody else gets hurt in September and Fields is sitting there as a guy they’d be willing to trade a 2nd for.

But they should not trade him today for a 6th just because they are afraid of him being in the locker room with Williams.
