So many predictions seemed to have him going to the cards. So I guess this is a plus in that regard. Personally, I never wanted him all that bad. I think we can spend that money better.

The annual isn’t as much as I thought. Maybe that is a good sign when it comes to signing other FA pitchers. Maybe Yamamoto takes a similar deal?

I feel like he’s a lock to go over 200mil. Maybe by a wide range. Nola had the familiarity with the Phillies that helped them avoid giving the most money. Yamamoto doesn’t have that and he’s got the Yankees and Red Sox interested.

🤣 I’m just faking logic. I spent a part of my morning thinking about how we could fit Ohtani and Yamamoto salary wise on the team and still be add a good rp, and third baseman 🤣

Why is this in Cubs Talk? What even are forum categories anymore? Remember when transactions actually went in the Transactions forum?

Would a forum discussing Cubs transactions and rumors be the appropriate place to discuss a transaction made by the Phillies?

Having so many sub forums is just dumb, imo. You end up diluting the user base because who the hell wants to back in and out of sub forums to find out the latest news in each individual area? They'll just go somewhere else where its 1 click away.

Well, the Transactions forum used to be for ALL transactions, not just the Cubs.  So if you wanted to post or discuss anything related to signings, it would be there.  Now we just have a bunch of renamed sub-forums that nobody uses, and a single Cubs discussion forum that encompasses almost everything.

Nobody uses them because it's inconvenient.

What's wrong with having one generalized MLB forum that is bias towards Cubs discussion? Is there a reason to have more than maybe 3 sub forums? 1 for each of MLB, MiLB, and game day?

It has worked that way here for 20 years

I, too, don’t get it. We have like four threads in the main cubs forum I have to check throughout the day. That, alone, is unnecessary when there hasn’t been an actual signing or trade for Soto or Ohtani.

And now, Id have to go to a different part of the forum to read and reply to something (Nola) I care minimally about anyway? It’s a very weird and clunky way of doing things.

And yet, again, it has worked fine for twenty years.

Doesn’t mean we shouldn’t gather user feedback and try to improve does it? If you want this site to continue to grow I think hearing from its current members is a good way to go about that.

My lowly opinion - I refresh this page and the venture to the minor league forum occasionally. I came here to refresh specifically to see what you guys were saying on Nola. And if there wasn’t a thread, I would have went elsewhere (Reddit, etc) to read the discussion.

That's fine. I'm not telling you how to run your forum. Its simply odd to me to complain about discussion on a forum. That is what keeps your site running for 20 years. So why would you want to redirect discussion to a sub forum that has 85 replies, 16 topics and a third don't have a single reply? Seems like a weird thing to be popping off about.

These are the same people who have their Windows desktop full of file icons because it takes extra clicks to organize them into proper subfolders, aren't they?

Seriously though, I recognize the ignorance in saying "This is how it was before, so this is how it should always be."  But it does feel like we're stuck in between right now and need to go one direction or another.  We have a transactions forum that sometimes gets used and sometimes doesn't.  We have a draft/amateur forum that rarely gets posted in except around draft time.  We have a general baseball talk forum that is sometimes hard to distinguish from the Cubs discussion.  And we have a Game Threads forum that archives all the game threads, but not the current day's game.

So, where do we go from here?  Is it better just to merge everything into two forums, Cubs DIscussion and Minor Leagues, and get rid of all the others that aren't being used consistently?  My personal preference is to keep things organized into logical threads and categories, but maybe there just isn't enough activity anymore to justify all the separate forums.  At some point though, when you combine everything into just a few generic categories, the site becomes not all that much different than a Discord channel and it can be difficult to follow.  How didn't I know that the Cubs signed Player X, or put Player Y on the injured list?  Oh, it's because that discussion took place inside another larger thread that I didn't read on that particular day.

I just think we need to pick a lane.  If we're going to keep the subforums, let's try to use them.  If not, there isn't much point in keeping them around.

I just don't think it's that hard or time consuming to navigate to the different sub-forums to read what I want to read... takes one or two extra clicks/touches. Even less if you have used the tools to make your feed show unread posts since your last visit

edited to add: Also don't mind Nola signing with the Phillies. The Cubs weren't going to sign him, so might as well have him there instead of the Cardinals or another competitor
