I hope we're able to retain both Estrada and Burdi. I wish Young the best in whatever his next job may be.

I don’t know who any of those guys are.

Estrada made about a dozen or so appearances over the last two seasons. Particularly last year, he flashed some really good stuff. Original Cubs pick. He's still only 25, so chances are good he'll reemerge somewhere as a quality BP arm.

Burdi and Young are both forgettable.

Cubs are going to have another 40 man crunch, and there's going to be a squeeze for playing time at Iowa next year.  Having that many good prospects in AAA is a good thing but you have to assume there's going to be trades this winter.

The Cubs have at least one of their top 15 prospects at every position, and virtually all of them will start the year in AAA or AA next year.

Since they were outrighted I think that means they already passed through waivers and can opt into free agency.

The waiver time started yesterday for these guys.  Six more days in which they can be claimed.  If nobody picks them up, they remain with the Cubs but not on the 40 man roster.   As long as they don't have 6 years of service time, they have to remain a Cub.

Burdi probably ends up in Milwaukee and becomes a quality guy

Milwaukee only exists to be a thorn in our side during the regular season.

Cubs didn’t lose any of those guys. If they want them back. They just took them off the 40 man roster. They can sign them up again as a minor league free agent. I would expect they do that for Estrada, at the very least.

I hope Estrada is retained. If he can just put some healthy seasons together, there's a very good ML reliever in there.

Burdi has the stuff to be a monster if he can stay healthy for more than six weeks during a season.

I'm not sure about Estrada's status, btw. I don't think he's been outrighted before, so he many not any option but to accept the assignment.

I think you are right about Estrada. What the Cubs did is really not a big deal. They can keep them all if they want them.

without looking it up, he may be a 6-year minor league FA, anyway, so it may only be a few weeks of additional control.
