You gotta love that Poles took away the best weapon for the rookie QB to throw to, I've expected a top 5 all the way, even with a weak division. The offense just lacks a lot of talent. Poles did very well. It's just too bad he did so little in FA to accomodate the roster.

I thought Poles asked for Moore, Burns, or their DT. Fitterer chose Moore.

It's funny now that rumors are out about how the Panthers are trying to trade for a #1 and wouldn't extend Burns. Panthers fans were pissed and trying to figure out the logic.

That might be the case. Worked wonders for us.

Bears giving 3 and Panthers deciding Moore was the one I remember from the Athletic article after the trade.  But I guess other rumors have said Bears insisted on Moore.

The other rumor was the negotiation over which 2nd rounder the Bears got back in 2023 between 61 and 38(?) and Carolina ownership throwing in the 2025 2nd to keep 38 instead of 61, which is just incredible value for Bears IMO.

I really don't know how to deal with a Bears GM being on the plus side of an apparent fleecing.  It's got to be against the rules or something.  To even suggest Poles was smart enough to realize by taking away the only weapon from a rookie QB would all but guarantee a top 5 2024 pick is almost genius.

tbf, Moore wasn't the world-beater at Carolina. Hes had consistent seasons, but nothing like the last 2 games with JF, mainly because they've had poor QB play too. I;m not sure Moore would have had the same numbers with Bryce Young

JF1 and DJ2 have played so well this week I actually missed watching the Bears on Sunday.  Hopefully the start of something special.  Would be unbelievable if JF is good enough to pass on drafting a QB this year.  Just tons of capital to work with.

Also the Bears won't have to worry about Justin Jefferson this week against the Vikes.  So much easier to root for wins with that Carolina pick looking more and more juicy.  There will be an absolute bidding war for the overall first pick.

A bidding war for the overall first pick but, still be a position to draft Marvin Harrison Jr. would be the dream scenario.  If Fields is good enough to pass on drafting a QB that'll probably mean a few more wins for the Bears.  With their own pick they'll end up drafting in the teens, if they have the first overall.  Poles could get a haul and still remain in the top 5 thereby remaining in position to draft Harrison Jr.

Good point, this draft seems like it has some real blue chippers beyond Williams and MHJ would be awesome.

Hopefully it works out for us and we get an unequivocal answer on Fields being the guy by the end of the season.  Bears upcoming schedule is as friendly as you could ask for.

I hadn't heard that take on the '25 2nd.

I had it in my head that adding Moore took away the '25 first. I kind of assumed that they would have had the higher second, but maybe the Moore addition moved it from 38 to 61 Either way, glad we got what we did

We could easily take the haul of future picks in a trade back, then trade back up

Texans did it this year for Anderson given all their Watson picks are still piled up. Eagles did it when they traded back from 6 to 12 to 10 for Devonta Smith

Poles has shown an aggressive streak with Claypool trade, trading up for Stevenson.

It would be cool to always have extra picks, but all the draft capital has to turn into real players and wins.

I'm forever on the Marv jr. train. As always, a litany of teams in the top 10 in need of QB - but can't go lower than 3 (Caleb/Maye 1-2). To me, Marv jr. is too good of a prospect to expect to be able to trade back up and acquire.

Brock Bowers would be fantastic too. Would love to see the offense with 2 high caliber weapons, period. The middle of the field would certainly get a lot more attention.

For maximal enjoyment as a fan with a reasonable outcome (i.e., glfore's post above and others). Fields continues his upward trajectory and maintains consistency. 250 yards and 2 TD's seems ho-hum. Footwork/timing continually gets cleaned up and throws come out with anticipation. Get an extra pick or 2 moving down from 1 to 2/3 for Marv jr. Draft an edge at ~15 and sign Young/Sweat to pair with him. Upgrade interior oline, yada yada...

There's some clear holes here. I'm higher on Braxton than most - albeit a lot of evaluation still to come. Flus is still not inspiring as a HC. Gervon is showing promise but 3T is still a big question mark. I'm getting carried away... Caleb and a new coaching staff isn't the worst consolation prize in the history of the Bears fandom cycle. But there's a lot of potential here for the time being unless Fields implodes. With a nice soft stretch of defenses to come.

Unfortunately I can't think of a scenario where MHJ and Fashanu are obtainable. If the Bears are bad enough to have 2 top 5 picks, 1 is definitely being used on a QB. I guess it's very slightly possible that Houston falls on their face and that would give Arizona 2 very high picks, but Stroud seems solid enough to keep Houston from completely bottoming out. If the Bears could add MHJ and Fashanu, they could literally spend the rest of the draft and the entirely of FA on the defense.
