3 outs from the official end. It’s been real.

I predicted in early August that the marlins were going to be our hardest opponent for the wild card

I think the Cubs were their own most difficult opponent.

I agree but the marlins earned it down the stretch. Their schedule was impossible and they did well enough

They actually made some decent moves at the deadline. Their bullpen is pretty good as well.

Sucked seeing Gomes get a little emotional there. What a solid season by him.

Is he here next year? Gomes was unbelievable.

They might be a tougher opponent than the Cubs would have been, maybe.  Their lineup is terrible, no power, low OBP, other than Arraez there's nothing else to fear.

The frustrating part of this is if the Cubs could have just managed .500 ball they'd be one of the wild cards.  Them instead of a not-so-good team that greatly benefited from luck.  They'll never be able to sustain that type of play in the playoffs.

He did bring Wisdom back, so it not crazy to think he won't try to bring Candelario back.

What out there for 1B that a FA

I doubt Candelario is a priority. I don’t want him back.

They need to find a 1st baseman and a 3rd baseman. Maybe a CF. They need left handed power. The need a SP a closer (maybe), and a LH Reliever or two.

They have some money, but not a lot of Stroman stays. The FA market is thin. They may be spending prospects.

Without arb guys, and not picking up any options, they have about 78 million under the cap.  If Stroman opts out, that frees up about 23 million more.  His salary is already in next years budget as of right now.

I think the arbi guys will cost about 6 mil . That takes them to 72 . Of those 72 take 5-10 for in season moves and you have in reality between 62-67 to use before the start of the season . Stroman is staying  That’s why o said earlier a lot less money available than what we thought before this season started .

Please stay away from Matt Chapman . Yes he can play elite defense , but he isn’t what this team needs on offense . If they are spending 20+ million on a position player , let it be a true star

So even if the Marlins win tomorrow and win the Mets game the Cubs needed to just go 11-11 after the Giants series to make the playoffs. Instead they’ve gone 7-14 so far.

edit: and actually probably could have gone 9-13 if they do better than 1-6 against Arizona

Canario has done nothing but hit but Ross couldn't give two shits about him. Fire his ass today

The Cubs ought to send Canario to winter ball to learn to play 1B.  If he is successful, we might not have to spend to fill that spot.
