Why didn’t they bat happ or hoerner in the fourth spot??

They have 3 good hitters, so I think they want them to bat 1-3 or 2-4 (Hoerner, Suzuki, Bellinger) and then everyone else 🤷‍♂️

Last week it was why is Happ in front of Bellinger,  this week it why is Swanson in front of Suzuki, next week it'll be why is Tauchman hitting in front of Hoerner..lol

Couple things here so I can distract myself from the actual game:

1. I think batting order is an easy thing to point to when you're evaluating a manager, correctly or incorrectly, just because everyone has their preference on who the best hitters are, and those guys should bat more than the less good hitters.

2. Ross, for whatever reason, has made it clear that he's only going to change his lineup like, on a monthly basis. Some guys are like that, Maddon went back and forth, whatever. I rarely think those lineups are the most effective way to group these hitters, and I think in particular it almost seems like he gives Dansby and Nico undue offensive credit when an unusually large part of their (substantial value) comes from their defense. Some hypothetical bad defensive first baseman who OPSes .830 is way less valuable than Hoerner, but he should probably get more at bats.

3. In the short run, I really don't think it matters. Suzuki with a .350 OBP is like 7% more likely to come through than Dansby with a .325 OBP, and these are made up numbers. I think the advanced stats back this up.

Got one run in at least.  By Dansby no less.

Still owes us like 4 more for his defense the last 2 nights

Brad Boxberger may not be the bullpen savior we need

In fairness the umpire blew the strike 3 call on the first batter. Should have been a 3 up 3 down inning. And the pitch was well in the zone.

I mean, who knows. All those other teams suck too. Go surprise us all and beat three teams with nothing to play for.

The thing that's a little frustrating is that for most of the main hitters, this isn't their first time in a high pressure environment. Happ has been here plenty, Dansby and Bellinger have rings, Suzuki has plenty of success in Japan and has also been awesome. Still think this is more of a pitching shortage, but wasn't expecting to see these guys press the way that they have been.

Happy fan appreciation weekend, watch us finish gagging up a playoff spot against the worst team in baseball

But beverages are 20% off in Gallagher way up until noon. Drink up everyone!

Well, maybe the bright side will be we might see PCA, Canairo, and maybe even Mervis playing the final 3-6 games of season depending on how the weekend goes against the Rockies.

If we didn’t have by far the hardest remaining schedule of the WC contenders and if we didn’t lose every single potential tiebreaker I might be able to talk myself into having hope. I mean sure anything can happen in baseball and I’m not saying it’s improbable that the Cubs play 1 game better than 2 other teams over a 9 game span but it feels less and less likely that the team is suddenly going to turn it on overnight.

I could be wrong and it likely they dont think like this but, I mean yea it great to make the postseason but how much energy is really there for these guys knowing that it'll likely be a quick exit knowing that there not much to hang their hats on with the pitching both with the starters and the pen, and theyll be likely going up against a team with solid pitching and hitting.
