Thoughts on week 1?

I felt like the tone was set the first drive of the game. A good team should be able to gain one yard on 3rd and 4th and 1. Put your biggest back in there and get the first down...tried to get too cute. 

I am cautiously optimistic this season will be better than the last, but that was not a good start...and the schedule doesn't get any easier.

They have nowhere else to go but up. Fields getting injured is about the only way things could get worse. And I don't know if that is necessarily going to make them worse.

If they don't win next week, looks like an 0-3 start to the season. There is a chance KC comes into that game 0-2

I thought the team was ill prepared and unmotivated. They looked dead on the sidelines. 
 

This is Poles’s team and so far it is not promising. 
 

while I do not believe this scenario is likely, think for a minute of the opportunity they’d have with two top 5 picks this offseason. If somehow the Bears’ own pick is top five, this season is a disaster. That would mean Ryan Poles took a subpar Ryan Pace team and made it much worse. 
 

Two top five picks in an offseason with a ton of cap space is a once in a lifetime opportunity to set things straight. Nothing about what he’s done tells me Ryan Poles would be able to take advantage of that opportunity. 
 

If this team finishes 2023/24 as a bottom 5 team, that is on Poles and he has to go. At this point I’d trust Kevin Warren to hire a better GM that could turn things around if it gets to that point. 
 

hopefully it doesn’t, but that’s on Eberflus, Getsy and Fields.

Philly has shown everyone how to get 1 yard. They are even copying it in college now. Absolutely pathetic.

Yes if the Bears pick is top 5 this year you have to clean house and let a new GM build this.

A dream/disaster scenario is the Bears have picks 1 and 2, get Caleb Williams and Marvin Harrison Jr lol. Offensive line and defensive line be dammed

It wouldn't be damned if you went that route, because all of your cap space could go towards the Lines. Cheap QB and WR for the next 5 years makes it where you can stack up proven NFL talent in the trenches.

If this offense remains putrid, DJ Moore will demand a trade this offseason. He’s got one chance to break the bank in free agency and that won’t happen if he’s getting 2 targets a game with the Bears and breaking in a rookie next season.

OLine is bad, DLine is bad, coaching is bad.  I'm not sure you can evaluate anything else properly when those 3 things are as atrocious as they were yesterday.  I think Poles being a former lineman is severely jading his ability to evaluate the performance of a try hard, low ability guy he picked in the 7th round to be a starting LT in the NFL.  And I still have no idea why there was no effort to get an additional impact player on the DLine in the offseason.  In conclusion, fire them all and start over.  This horsefeathers ain't working.

I saw the Colts try this yesterday (their new HC was the Eagles OC last year) and failed miserably.  But it does work much more often than it doesnt.
